Nearly 6 Years Later...Frostbite groans as she lays on her bed staring at the ceiling, wondering why her mother keeps her locked in here. Her room is practically bare, other than her few paintings, her bed, a window, and a chest of her items. If only I could talk to Arctic...
Arctic is her friend. Well, was. Arctic is a boy who used to send food to her and talk to her for hours. He was named after the IceWing prince that was stolen from them by the NightWings. They used to talk about their lives and their family issues, but a few weeks ago they were caught and Snowfall made sure he would never hear Frostbite again. That broke her. He was her only friend and he was special to her. And even if someday she does get out of this horrid room, they talked on opposite ends of the door, so she never saw his face. She can never find him.
Frostbite moves up to the window, looking out off into the town, watching tiny dragons scurry around buying things from shops. Maybe someday Mother would trust her enough to let her be free. Probably not.
Frostbite reaches into her chest, pulling out a few books. She sits in the windowsill, occasionally glancing at the many dragons outside. Without really noticing, hours pass by, Frostbite's snout buried in books. The sun is almost gone when she jumps to a knock on her door.
Knock knock.
"Frostbite, darling, we need to have a little talk." Snowfall opens the door before she can say anything, rolling her eyes at the stacks of books around her room.
"Yes, Mother." Frostbite marks the page with a ribbon and sets the book down.
Snowfall sits on Frostbite's bed, making herself comfy. "It's about your father."
Frostbite perks up. She doesn't know anything about her father, other than the fact that he's a SeaWing. She's never met him, and she always thought that she never would. Has he come to get me? Will he take me to the sea, where I could learn to swim?
Snowfall notices her sudden burst of hope and laughs. "Your father is a SeaWing prince. An animus, too. I gave him treasure so he could give me an egg. And he did. I gave him more to enchant you. He's forgotten about you. He doesn't care about you. He doesn't want you. I just thought you needed to know the truth... and that you shouldn't get your hopes up."
I close my eyes, fighting back tears. Is she lying? Snowfall is many things, but she is no lier. The SeaWing prince doesn't want her and he probably forgot about her. He won't come to get her. He won't teach her how to speak Aquatic. He won't swim with her and teach her the ways of a SeaWing.
"Just don't get your hopes up, young dragonet. He doesn't love you and he certainly won't take you away from me." Snowfall smirks at Frostbite and glides out of the room, closing the door with a little click.
She lays on her bed, silent tears falling from her eyes. Deep down Frostbite always hoped her father would come save her. Or someone. But who else then her very own father? Nobody knows her, nobody can save her.
A while passes and Frostbite's eyes are red from all of the tears. Knowing she must wake up early for training, she closes her eyes to sleep. But just before she drifts off into her dreams, she has one thought.
I'm going to get out of here someday.
No matter what.
