3rd Person P.O.V
The wind whistled past Yamaguchi Tadashi's ears. He took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of blooming flowers being carried by the wind. Today's going to be a good day. The boy thought to himself, as he jogged up to meet his friend, Tsukkishima Kei's long strides. They were headed to Karasuno's gym, where a new team of volleyball players awaited. As Yamaguchi opened the door, ready to be met with new opportunities, his heart sang. He always loved the sport, even if he wasn't too hot at it. All he wanted was to play.
*********
Yamaguchi thought back to that spring day, thinking of how naive he was back then. A ball hitting the wood floor and a whistle blowing snapped him out of his thoughts. A longer whistle was blown and Karasuno cheered. They'd won the first set in their practice game against Aoba Joshai. As the starting lineup walked back to the bench to get some water, everyone sitting out cheered.
"That was great, guys! Next set, try and time your blocks so you jump as soon as the spiker swings their arm downward." Suga said, grinning. Yamaguchi couldn't help but smile too, although he didn't help out at all.
"Wow, that was awesome!" The freckled boy chriped. As they chatted idly about the tactics for the next set, the whistle blew once more. As the time went on, Tsukkishima was up to serve. Coach Yukai called Yamaguchi over and handed him a card with an 11 written on it. Yamaguchi gulped and walked over to the edge of the court. Tsukki walked over to him, taking the card from him and sat down, their warm hands brushing against eachother in the process.
As awkward as he felt thinking about it, the small interaction filled Yamaguchi with newfound happiness. He bounded up to the setting position and waited. The whistle blew, and he carefully tossed the ball in the air, jumping after it. He hit it with the palm of his hand, and watched as it hit the rim of the net. His breath caught in his throat, but was soon released as the ball fell on Seijoh's side of the court with a thud.
"One more, Tadashi!" Daichi called out to him with a reassuring grin. Yamaguchi nodded and caught another ball that was tossed to him. He tried more carefully to land the ball over the net, rather than atop it. Luckily, this was the case for the next three serves of his. He got the team to lead by four points, and for that he was proud of himself.
On the fifth serve, he was feeling a bit more confident. It was understandable, seeing as he never did this well with his serves. Once the whistle blew, Yamaguchi tossed the ball up. He hit it with his palm with more force, but immediately regretted it. It hit the the mesh of the net and flung back around, hitting Hinata square in the nose.
The carrot-top fell backwards and groaned. Yamaguchi ran up to him, stuttering out apologies. He heard Oikawa snickering from behind the net and shrank, his head drooping and shoulders arching.
"I'm fine, really!" Hinata said, getting up and grinning with what seemed like twice as much energy. Yamaguchi sighed with relief, but turned to the sidelines to see Tsukki waiting, a card with 12 written on it in his hand. Yamaguchi sighed and walked over to him, taking the card.
"If it were up to me, I'd let you play for the rest of the set." Tsukki said quietly, almost whispering. Yamaguchi looked up at him, somewhat confused.
"You really think that?" He asked, a smile playing on his lips. The taller of the two nodded before walking over to his position. Yamaguchi stood in the area marked off for teammates waiting to be switched out, standing towards the back as not to be seen. He was still quite embarrased. His eyes followed the ball as it alternated from side to side. His eyes always seemed to linger on a specific player, however.
