Hel stop it! Sorry. Oh, what a day! I can hardly believe it's all real! I don't know what's happened to me! My head is a whirl. It all happened so fast! I think I may be in love! But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me start from the beginning. I arrived at Shiz around noon, a little after most of the other students had arrived. (We live far away from the school) I was trying to find out where I was supposed to go, but I must admit, I was too shy to ask anyone on account of my size. Everyone was so tall! I was wandering around on the front lawn near a small crowd of the other students, when I spotted a girl a little way away who did not look too intimidating. She was facing away from me and all the other latecomers, looking at the view of the mountains. I approached her rather shyly and tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around and, and, oh I can't go on! But I must! Oh, it was horrible! I know I shouldn't be saying this. It is kind of mean of me. But No one is going to read this. Right? Anyway, I must confide in someone, or something, or I'll simply burst with the horror of it! She looked like something like that great poet Dante would have created! She had great long white teeth, and yellow eyes, and, and she was, she was green! And not a pretty green like the Emerald City. Not that I've been to the emerald city, but that's not important, you get my meaning. I was terrified of such a, um, sight, appearing before me! You can imagine how startling it was! Well maybe you can't, but it was horrendous! I'm sorry for saying so, but it's true. I was terrified! I'm not proud of what I did next, and I do not think that her looks justified my actions, but I did it and there's nothing I can do about it now. I let out a yell, and, clutching my suitcase to me like a shield, fairly fled a safer distance away, where I immediately averted my eyes from her face. Oh, I'm so ashamed of what I did! It was so rude! I, however, was not the only one startled by this girl's appearance, one student fainted dead away and had to be revived with a bucket of water. Nevertheless, the green girl, please pardon the title for I did not yet know her name. Well, the green girl did not seem hurt by my actions, but she did seem annoyed. She even started towards me as if to attack. I shied away, and she left me alone. Even after all this excitement, however, this was not the only significant event that happened today at all! Right after my fright with the green girl, another more spectacular event occurred. I heard a great shout from the crowd of students in front of the building, and, looking in that direction, I saw the most amazing girl that I have ever seen in my entire life! She was beautiful! She had golden hair with a gentle curl, and bright blue eyes the color of the sky. I was busy um, contemplating1 the wonder before me, when I heard something, or rather the absence of something. All the students had now fallen silent and were staring, not at the beautiful girl, but at the green one. By this time all the students on the lawn had noticed her and were looking at her in a very rude way. I must say I admire the girl for what she did next. Instead of being ashamed, she became sarcastic and, addressing the whole crowd, stated the following speech. "What! What are you all staring at? Oh, do I have something in my teeth?!" here she became annoyed, and hurling down her suitcase, strode towards us. "Alright!" She said, "I might as well get this over with. No, I am not seasick! Yes, I have always been green! And no, I did not eat grass as a child!" Throughout this dialogue she had been moving closer to me, and at the last bit we were quite close to each other. Although I was startled by this sudden onslaught of words, I felt guilty for being so rude to her. I opened my mouth to apologize and ask her name, when a loud voice interrupted my would-be speech. "Elfaba!" It said. I looked beyond the girl and saw A man who must have been her father pushing a beautiful girl in a wheelchair. Miss Elfaba, that's the green girl's name, although you probably guessed that already, although you didn't because you're a piece of paper. Anyway, she ran over to her father and addressed the crowd again. "This is my younger sister Nessarose!" She said. "As you can see, she is perfectly normal color!" Just then Miss Elfaba's father addressed her in what I thought was an unnecessarily stern voice. "Elfaba!" he lectured. "Stop making a spectacle of yourself! Remember, I'm only sending you to this school for one reason." His daughter finished his speech for him. "I know, to look after Nessa." Then her father did something which horrified me, it was so unfair! He turned to his younger daughter and gave her an ornamental box. "My precious girl!" he said, "A parting gift." She opened the box and pulled out a pair of lovely silver shoes. "Oh father!" she exclaimed clearly torn between the beauty of the shoes and her embarrassment for her sister, "Jeweled shoes!" she exclaimed. "As befits the future governor of Munchkin land." He said. This startled me. This horrid man was the governor of my country! My father's employer! But he wasn't done surprising me. Turning to Miss Elfaba, he said, "Elfaba, take care of your sister. And try not to talk so much!" With this he tuned and left without as much as a goodbye to either one of his daughters! I was so stunned by this blatant act of hatred, that I did not hear what Miss Nessarose said to her sister, but I believe she was trying to comfort her, because the next thing her sister said was, "Well what could he get me? I clash with everything!" Before anyone could do anything, Madame Morrible, the headmistress, gave a welcoming speech. At least I think she did, I wasn't listening. I was too horrified! Madame Morrible then caught sight of Miss Nessarose. "Oh!" she exclaimed, "You must be the governor's daughter! Nessarose, isn't it? What a Tragically beautiful face you have!" Here Miss Elfaba tapped her on the shoulder. "And who is ...," Madam Morrible turned around and screamed even louder than I did. I mean not that I screamed, but never mind. Miss Elfaba coolly introduced herself. "I'm the other sister Elfaba." She said, "I'm beautifully tragic." I smiled at that one. She was so ironical. Even still I felt sorry for her. She seemed to not care at all, but I could tell that she was forcing herself to become annoyed in an attempt to mask her hurt. I mean, it must have been a mask. Nobody just doesn't care. Anyway, Madame Morrible got over her sudden fright and addressed Miss Elfaba. "Well," she said, "I'm sure you're very bright." The beautiful girl, whom I had temporarily forgotten, said something that made the other students laugh. The girl had the most stunning and entrancing Laugh I have ever heard! It was merry and sweet, like the tinkling of many bells. I didn't catch what she said, but it must have been something very witty. Madame Morrible continued talking but I did not hear what she said. Then the strikingly beautiful girl, and Miss Elfaba raised their hands. Madame Morrible addressed them. "Is this regarding room assignments?" she asked. The beautiful girl answered her. "No, but thank you for asking, Madam Morrible, I've already been assigned a private suite." This created a stir for some reason. "But," she continued, "You can all come and visit me whenever you like!" I thought this was very kind of her, and so, apparently, did her friends, for they said so. Madame Morrible asked the wonderful girl if she had a question. "Oh yes," The entrancing girl exclaimed in a voice like water over smooth rocks," You see, I am Galinda Upland, Of the Upper Uplands? I've applied to your sorcery seminar. Perhaps you recall my entrance essay 'Magic wands: You mean they have a point?'" I rejoiced inside I knew this wonder's name. Miss Galinda! What a beautiful name! She must be wonderful! Madame Morrible however, answered her in the most unreasonable manner! "Yes," she said, "However, I do not teach my seminar in every semester, of course if someone special were to come along," "Well exactly!" Miss Galinda said. Just then Miss Elfaba brought me back to reality. "Madame Morrible," she said, "we have not yet received our room assignments." "The governor made his concerns for your sister's wellbeing quite apparent." Madame Morrible stated, "She will share my compartment, where I can assist her as needed." Miss Elfaba protested by saying that she had always looked after her sister. Miss Nessarose said something to her that I did not catch, and the discussion went on. I was now listening to Miss Galinda who was talking to her friends. "You know," She said, "I don't even think she read my essay!" I was so horrified at this injustice that I spoke to her. "That's so unfair!" I exclaimed, "You should say something!" "Should I?" She asked me. Before I could reply Miss Galinda raised her hand and glided towards Madame Morrible. Madame Morrible turned around and said, "Oh, thank you dear! That is very good of you!" Both I and Miss Galinda were startled. "What?" she said. "Yes," said Madame Morrible," Now Miss Elfaba, you can room with Miss Galinda! To your room young ladies! It was at that moment when I realized that I had accidentally caused the most beautiful girl in all of OZ, to share room with a girl she detested! And by the Look on Miss Elfaba's face I'd say the feeling was mutual. I was horrified for the umpteenth time that day! This was not going too well. However, what happened next topped everything that had happened so far. As Madame Morrible wheeled Miss Nessarose away, Elfaba shouted after her, "No! Wait!" Miss Nessarose tried to calm her down, but she became furious, and shouted, "Let her go!" What happened next was both amazing and horrible at the same time. Miss Nessarose's wheelchair, seemingly of its own accord, wrenched itself free from Madame Morrible's grasp and sped strait into Miss Elfaba's hands. Both Madame Morrible and Miss Galinda exclaimed, "How did you do that?!" A startled and angry Miss Nessarose addressed her sister. "Elfaba! You promised things would be different here!" With that she turned her face away from her sister and refused to look up. Madame Morrible was astounded. "You mean this has happened before?" she asked. For the first time since she had arrived Miss Elfaba looked anxious. For the thousandth time I felt sorry for her. Miss Elfaba sounded desperate when she said, "Well, something just comes over me sometimes, it's something I can't describe! I'll try to control myself!" Here she turned to her sister and apologized. Miss Nessarose did not look at her. "What?!" Madame Morrible exclaimed, "Never apologize for talent! Talent is a gift! And that's my special talent, encouraging talent! Have you ever considered a career in sorcery?" Miss Elfaba looked shocked. And to tell you the truth so was everyone else, including me! "Not really," She said. "I shall Tutor you privately!" Madame Morrible exclaimed, "And take no other students!" I was astonished! What about Miss Galinda! Miss Galinda showed the same surprise as I did, but I never got to see the rest of what went on, because I and my fellow roommates, I do not know their names, were led away to our dormitory. Once we got to the building which was to be our home for the rest of the semester, all the boys I was with rushed in and took rooms on the first floor. I entered more timidly and finding rowdy boys in all the downstairs rooms took one on the top floor with no one in it. It is a lot more peaceful here, so I will be able to get my work done more easily. Well I must go to bed now. Classes start in the morning! Goodbye No! I keep forgetting!!
