My first day here at Shiz has not been altogether enjoyable. We (Elfaba, my father and I) started on the train to the school the first thing in the morning, however, we did not arrive until the afternoon. When we arrived at the station, I was held up because I needed to get my trunk out of the luggage car, and father was busy with the conductor trying to get me off the train. As a result of this confusion I and my father ended up spending quite a lot of time at the station, so Elfaba went on ahead to the school. When Father and I finally arrived, Father insisted on wheeling me onto the school campus, the first sight we beheld was Elfaba making a loud scene on the front lawn. Apparently, she had been giving all the students a sarcastic speech, because I heard the end of it. I was so angry! All the students were staring at her as if she were some kind of monster! I wanted to do something but couldn't because father beat me to it." Elfaba!" Father yelled. Elfaba saw me. She stormed over to us and pointed at me. "This is my younger sister Nessarose," she said sarcastically, "As you can see, she's a perfectly normal color!" I felt horrible, but before I could say anything to Elfaba, father started ranting again. "Elfaba!" he hollered, "Stop making a spectacle of yourself! Remember I'm only sending you to this school for one reason," Elfaba finished his sentence. "I know: to look after Nessa." I felt like crying. Suddenly Father turned towards me and presented me with a beautiful box. I opened it tentatively. Inside I found a pair of beautiful silver shoes! "Father! I said, "Jeweled shoes?!" "As befits the future governor of Munchkin land. " He said. Then turning to Elfaba he said, "Elfaba, take care of your sister. And try not to talk so much!" With that he was gone. I was torn! They were such beautiful shoes, but the way Father had acted towards Elfaba was unacceptable!  I tried to console her. Elfaba..." I started to say. "Well," she said, in an attempt at nonchalance," What could he get me? I clash with everything!" I was about to say more to her, to say that she could have the shoes! I couldn't walk in them any ways. However, I could not say anything more because at that moment, an important looking woman started to give a speech." Welcome!" she exclaimed, "" Welcome, new students! I am Madame Morrible, the headmistress here at Shiz University. And whether you are here to study Law, Logistics, or Linguification, I know I speak for my fellow faculty members when I say we have nothing but the highest hopes for some of you." Here she smiled intently at a little Munchkin boy standing a little way apart from the rest of the students. I could tell he was a Munchkin because of his small stature and the fact that he was wearing all blue, except for a bright red cap, which was odd, for you rarely see a Munchkin wearing anything that isn't blue or gold. This boy was clearly not listening to Madame Morrible. He was staring in horror, not at Elfaba, but in the direction my father had taken. I had no more time to dwell on this boy's actions however, because Madame Morrible had noticed me and came over to where I was sitting. "Oh," she exclaimed, "You must be the governor's daughter! Nessarose, isn't it?" I nodded. "What a tragically beautiful face you have!" Elfaba tapped her on the shoulder impatiently." And who is..." Madame Morrible screamed when she caught sight of Elfaba's face." I'm the other daughter Elfaba." Elfaba said coolly, "I'm beautify tragic". " I see," said Madame Morrible nervously, "Well I'm sure you very bright." Just then a horribly mean girl perched atop a precarious pile of suitcases said, "Bright! She's phosphorescent!"  Everyone laughed, except, I noticed, the Munchkin who I mentioned earlier. "Now," Said Madame Morrible, "Regarding room assignments."  The mean girl raised her hand. "Is this regarding room assignments?" Madame Morrible asked. "No," said the girl, "But thank you for asking Madame Morrible, I've already been assigned a private suite. But you all can come visit me whenever you want!" Then ensued an annoying and tedious dialogue between the girl and her two friends, consisting of them saying how good she was and her deigning it. This horrid conversation, if you can call it a conversation, would most likely have gone on for hours if Madame Morrible had not interrupted it. "Do you have a question?" She asked. "Oh yes," said the girl," You see, I am Galinda Upland, of the Upper Uplands? I've applied to your sorcery seminar. Perhaps you recall my entrance essay, 'Magic Wands: You Mean They Have a Point?'" Madame Morrible answered her. "Yes, well I do not teach my seminar every semester, of course if someone special were to come along,"" Well exactly!" Galinda interrupted her rudely. At that moment Elfaba asked Madame Morrible about our room assignments. "The Governor made his concerns about your sister's well-being quite apparent." Madame Morrible answered her, "She can share my compartment, where I can assist her as needed." I was overjoyed! Now Elfaba did not have to take care of me! Elfaba, however, was obviously not comfortable with this idea. " But I've always looked after my sister!" She exclaimed, agitated by the prospect of leaving me with someone she did not know.  "Elfaba!" I said trying to calm her down but at the same time annoyed at her for being so overprotective. "Well," Said Madame Morrible, "He never mentioned you. Just a slight gulch, no need to fret we will find some place to put you." I thought she had some nerve! Talking to my sister like she was a dog that needed a home! Madame Morrible asked for volunteers to room with Elfaba. No one spoke for a moment, then suddenly Galinda raised her hand and volunteered! I had misjudged her. Suddenly something terrible happened. Madame Morrible had just started to wheel me away, when Elfaba lost control and made it happen again! She made my chair fly towards her! I was so angry!  How could she do this to me! I didn't even want to look at her! She had promised that things would be different here! I told her so, and Madame Morrible said," What! You mean this has happened before?" Elfaba said sorry but I was still angry at her. Then Madame Morrible told Elfaba that what she had was a talent, and that she would tutor Elfaba in sorcery! I am so happy for my sister! This means that she might be able to work with the Wizard!  This is such a good chance for her to make people like her! Well I need to get to sleep. It's been a long day.
