Oh, I can't believe I have done such a terrible thing! I have hurt the one I love more than anyone else in the world! And I fear I can never fix the wrong I have done! I will try to compose myself enough to write. I was sitting in my drawing room after my afternoon snack, and had just dismissed Boq, when Elfaba appeared in my wardrobe! She came to ask father for help. I told her that father was dead, that he had died of shame when he had heard what she had done! She said she was glad! She said that now I could help her! Me! Help her! All my life I had depended on her and she left me here with only a depressed Munchkin boy who has ceased to love me! I wheeled my chair towards her and told her that, instead of flying around OZ rescuing animals she hasn't even met, she should have thought of rescuing me! Elfaba seemed stunned for a second, then she seemed to have an idea. She took out a large leather-bound spell book from her bag and, setting it down in front of her spelled my shoes! I can walk now! But that doesn't matter anymore. Not now that Boq is- never mind. I immediately rang for Boq and ran to my chair so that I could surprise him. He walked in and saw Elfaba. Upon seeing who she was he ran to the table, picked up a penknife, and backed away from her. Elfaba was distressed at the way he had received her." Boq, it's only me! I'm not going to hurt you!" She said. Boq continued to back away. "You're lying!" He yelled, his voice shaking with emotion, "That's all you ever do! You and your sister! She's as wicked as you are!" Every word he said cut into my heart like a dagger! Elfaba was perplexed. "What are you talking about?" She asked. "I'm taking about my life!" He cried in anguish, "The little that's left of it. Ever since she took power, she's been striping the Munchkins of our rights! And we didn't have that many to begin with. And do you know why?!" "To keep you here with me!" I said, "But none of that matters anymore! Look!" And I stood up. Oh, the look on Boq's face was gold! He dropped the knife in amazement. "You did this?" He said looking at Elfaba, "For her?" "For both of us!" I said. He ran to me and took my hands in his. "Oh Nessa! This changes everything!" "I Know!" I replied. I thought he was going to propose! "Listen Nessa?" He stammered, falling into his old habit of stuttering, "Uh Nessa? Surely now I'll matter less to you, and you won't mind my leaving here tonight!" I was confused, "Leaving?" "Yes! This ball that's being staged announcing Glenda is engaged to Fiyero!" I was still more confused. "Glinda!" I said. "Yes Nessa! That's right! And I've got to go appeal to her, express the way I feel to her--"He trailed off when he saw I was on the verge of tears. "Oh Nessa," He said, almost pityingly, "I lost my heart to Glenda the moment I first saw her. You know that." Furry broke through my grief. After all I went through, I was not about to give up Boq! "Lost your heart!" I said menacingly taking a step towards him. "Well we'll see about that!" Elfaba was uneasy. "Nessa let him go!" She exclaimed. I ignored her. "Did you think I'd let you leave me here flat! You'll lose your heart to me I tell you! If I have to," Here I saw Elfaba's book lying on the ground. "If I have to, magic spell you!" I ran to the book and found a good spell. Boq meanwhile, had picked the knife up off the ground and was backing away again, but this time away from me. I started to chant the strange words on the page. Oh, how I regret what I did! Elfaba told me it was too dangerous! She said I was pronouncing the words all wrong! But I didn't listen! I was halfway through the spell when it happened. "Nessa!" There was something in Elfaba's cry that made me stop and look up. Boq was leaning against my wheelchair clutching at his chest, with a terrible expression on his face. "Boq!" I cried, "What's wrong!" His breath was coming in short rapid gasps. "My heart!" He said his eyes wide with horror, "It feels, it feels like it's, it's shrinking!" He screamed the last words in agony and fell into the chair." Elfaba!" I cried in panic, "Do something!" "I can't!" She yelled back just as desperate, "You can't reverse a spell once it's been cast!" I was horrified! "Then what will we do!" I screamed! "This is all your fault! If you hadn't shown me that horrendible book-" "Hush will you!" Elfaba said somewhat calmer, "I have to find another spell! It's the only thing that might work." She wheeled Boq into the next room and I heard her chanting for what seemed an hour. Then she left me again! She left me in an even worse situation than before! She wouldn't even give me a direct answer when I asked her about Boq! I went into the next room and saw him. But it wasn't Boq! I saw him wake up and look at himself. Then he let out a terrible cry and fled from the building! In my agony I lied to him as he ran. I shouted over and over, "It was Elfaba! It was Elfaba!" Because, he was made of tin!!! I have nobody left! But I have one last hope. If this fails-But I can't think of that. It must succeed! My father kept many spell books in the attic. Maybe I can find something that can regrow Boq's heart and turn him back into the Munchkin boy that I know and love! I do have magic in me, the only thing is to learn how to pronounce the words properly. This must work!
