Hanji's POV

Frozen in place, I didn't know what to do. My legs grew heavy as it slowly turned to lead. How intimidating it was... college. As the gust of wind gently blew past me, it chilled me gently to the bone. As much as I tried to walk into the dorm, my legs tied me back. Voices in my head called out to me- no, more like shouting. Warning that I shouldn't be here. But this school... this school was by-far perfect as it matched all my qualities that I wanted it to have.

A science program that would guarantee all the top students in it to be registered into an institution. We can work with world-renown scientists. Create breakthroughs of the scientific realm. Exploring species from big to small. Even try to recreate extinct creatures. Exploring and traveling from country to country to learn about the world and its native species. Work on theories about every specimen on the planet. A scientist's dream.

The only thing that prevented people to come here was that... the fact that there's been people murdered on campus. Years upon years, people have been murdered from the most brutal ways to the calmest ones. With the greatest science programs in the country, was stained with the blood of the innocents.

But I didn't care. I risked it all. I risk having my life being taken away by trying to be the greatest scientist in the world. The idea of the greatest program within my grasp- I even qualified greatly for it. Achieve my dreams or achieve nothing. I chose to live my life and follow my dreams.

"Now or never..." I whispered to myself as I walked into the girls' science dorm.

The Scouting Theta Dorm- that was the name of it. Thankfully we don't call it by an acronym, we're just called the Scouts instead. Kinda like the Girl Scouts or the Boy Scouts, but instead, we're scouting for new discoveries in the world. My heart pounded just by standing in that dorm. But really, it gave off this... terrible aura.

This dorm was meant to hold about 100 female students, but I could only find 2 other girls. One had this short reddish hair and the other one had blonde, boy-ish cut. It was quiet... too quiet. The TV was on, but it was on the news. The girls were on their electronic devices, just minding their own business.

The girl with the boy cut looked up when the door behind me slammed shut. "Ah, you must be Hanji Zoe."

I nodded my head, walking over with my luggage in tow. "Yeah, and you two are...?"

"Name's Nanaba." She says with a smirk before pointing to the other girl. "And that's Nifa. Apparently, we're the only two that you need to know." She then gestured me to sit next to her, and I did. Once more, my heart pounded in fear as this atmosphere was just... unnatural. "Wondering where the others are?"

"Of course. I thought that there would be at least 10 other female students here. Is it because of the murders from past decades? We haven't had any here for at least 2 years. It should be safe for now."

Nanaba chuckled softly as Nifa began to speak. "Well, fear does drive into us too much. I guess people rather choose safety than to explore the scientific realm. Unlike us three, we don't care about our safety and rather explore the depths of the unknown. At least we're a trio and not partners, am I right, Nanaba?"

They both chuckled, like this was an inside joke. "Oh, come on, Hanji, let's go upstairs. Since we have the whole dorm, you get to choose the best one. Thankfully you don't have to get squashed into a small room when you can have an extended dorm room." Nanaba says, helping me with my luggage. Even Nifa came long with us.

After a few hours after searching room to room, I finally chose a bedroom on the 4th floor. Nanaba and Nifa took their own floors- floor 5 and 6. Although it did sent some insecure thoughts, it did grant us a lot of privacy. No complaints would be sent if we have the music too loud. Nothing like that. We owned the 10 floors of this dorm, and I took one of the biggest rooms on the 4th floor.

It was meant to hold 4 female students in it, but it's fine. If I had friends, I could invite them to stay over for a few nights. But I chose a bed and began to unpack. If I were to have friends, it would be Nanaba and Nifa. They were the ones here and would be in the same program as me. This was where I belonged.

Another hour later and I was done unpacking. A knock came at the door, and I saw Nanaba all dressed up with Nifa by her side.

"Yo, we're gonna go to the welcoming ceremony- naw, just a party. Come and join us. Doesn't hurt to see some guys." She says with a wink.

I looked down at my dresser and sighed. "Eh... I don't think I'll be a good party person-"

"Hanji..." I turned to see Nifa wearing this short, gold dress. A gold butterfly pin was in her hair as she nervously spoke. "I'm not either, but I'm not so sure about leaving you alone in this dorm. Not when there's so many floors."

With defeat in my tone, I nodded my head. "Give me another second, and I'll dress up nice for the party."

In this velvet-like dress, it went as short as 3 inches above my knees. I even grabbed a small black jacket and a black purse for my phone and cash. As a casual girl, I wore black flats on my feet. For one, I never wore high heels, and two, it was better this way. It would give off a bad message if I wore high heels.

Arm in arm, we walked off to the neighboring dorm: Rose Beta Dorm. It was a mixed dorm, and usually the one for all the newcomers- or it was for some of the honors kids. And a few were some legacy kids. Already, there was at least 50 people there. Loud music boomed out as kids were doing there... thing.

Once more, I didn't belong here. Nanaba and Nifa led me to the food bar, and that's where I stayed for most of the night. They went off to dance with a couple of guys... and that's when I noticed this young man in the corner.

If mythical creatures were alive, I would say he was a vampire. His pale skin stood out among the glowing lights and the darkness he was surrounded in. My guess was that his hair was black, for I couldn't see anything to say otherwise in the darkness. One thing for sure that stood out to me was his eyes. So calm and steel. A shiver fell down my back. I didn't expect for this man to step out towards me.
