Agent Locks' POV

It's been 3 months already. Hanji's entered her second trimester of her pregnancy while Levi was in solitary confinement. For the first week in jail, he already gotten injured. But in self-defense, he killed the man who attacked him. It was brutal. The attacker had a shank, ready to strike Levi. But Levi... he quickly grabbed him and stabbed him in the gut. He didn't stop there. He kept stabbing, over and over until someone came by to stop him. He was a monster. But... also a shell.

I forbade Hanji's request to visit him, just to see how Levi would react. He... he descended into depression. Sometimes, he wouldn't eat. I would even see blood on his arms. This man truly depended on Hanji Zoe. He never demanded anything, or attacking anyone who hasn't tried to harm him. Was he trying to prove himself worthy?

"His health is declining. Both his mental and physical health." One of our professional medical examiners took a sample of his blood, and they were also gonna relay the results to me. "But Locks, there's something interesting."

"What do you mean?"

"You told me that the boy in solitary confinement had a girlfriend, and she claimed that he was not like the others?"

My head began to nod to confirm it. "Yes." I still said, despite me noting it. "What about it? Found something interesting?"

"It's just that... we found a strain of DNA in his blood, and it was an unknown code. It seemed that it would only be activated by a certain hormone that only he produces. In order for me to see what that code does, we need to figure out which hormone activates it. It's nothing like I've ever seen."

Then, it clicked in my head. He was like a cold shell unless it was around his girlfriend. My mouth had no control when I said it out-loud. "He's always normal when he's with his girlfriend." I turned into the case files, quickly searching and finding the right clues. An invisible string slowly attached them together. That woman... this man... his murders seemed justified. Hanji Zoe didn't stay with Levi Ackerman because it was abusive. She stayed because he could act like a true human being. When she's away, he becomes this empty shell. Why she always defended him- "Could there be a cure to cure his condition?"

"Like I said, Locks, I've never seen this before. We don't even know what this coding does in his body. But it seems to be inactive. Had an idea pop into your head?"

"Exactly that." I growled, thinking about bringing her into this investigation. Once he was sentenced for the assault on Moblit Berner, he was given 8 years of it. It was better than nothing. We couldn't hold him down for Gunther Shultz's murder. "His girlfriend's studying to be a scientist- something along the lines of analyzing DNA. If she knew her boyfriend's condition, she would do anything to help him."

"You want me to talk to her?"

"She's not gonna open up until she sees her boyfriend. In her condition, I can't risk it."

Dr. Rising looked towards me with such an expression on her face. "Locks, after everything they've been through, I don't believe that he would hurt her. All his claims were that he was trying to protect her, wasn't it? So why would he turn against her if he's been trying to do the opposite?"

"You wouldn't know, Rising." I growled, "I'll go and see her tonight then. She won't be happy to see me though."

"Bring me along, and I'll see if I can get her to open up."

I nodded, "Let's start now."

"Hanji Zoe?" I called out to the woman with a friend. I could tell it was her- I could never forget her face. Her pregnancy also made her stand out among the people in the food court. Her eyes stared at me, almost fearfully. "We need to talk."

She quickly dismisses her friend, walking to the both of us. "After I tried weeks after weeks to get in contact with you about Levi- you finally showed up. Are you here to personally reject me from my attempts to have a meeting with him?"

Dr. Rising took a step forward, smiling softly. "Hello Ms. Zoe. I'm Dr. Penelope Rising. I'm a specialized scientist working directly with this agent. I am, by far, stunned about what I discovered in Mr. Ackerman. Tell me, have you also been baffled by this?"

She was silent for a bit, having her lips sealed. If she didn't know this was, she would've been sprouting out that she had no idea what was going on. Of course, she knew exactly what was going on. She knew what Rising found. "Ms. Zoe-"

"I'm not saying another word. Not until I see Levi. I need to see him directly and up front. No regulations against us touching. That's all I ask. I also want this constant-"

"Ms. Zoe, this is a lot you're asking for." I say, but she stared at me directly. Fiercely, in other words. More like... I don't want to see how she acts when she's really pissed off. "I'm... I'm not sure how well I can execute your requests."

"Simple. You grant them, I will give you want you want."

Closing my eyes, I had to make the most regrettable decision. Rising would've agreed with my decision as well. Was it really worth it? Getting answers by letting an innocent woman with the most dangerous man? I guess... it was worth it.

"I'll see what I can do. Try to keep your schedule cleared."
