Jin stumbled back in surprise. How could Lee, the boy who worked at a tea shop, be the Fire Lord?
But she remembered that Lee had refused to tell her much about his past. Jin had even overheard him telling his uncle that 'she was onto them'- onto them about being Fire Nation, she now realized.
Panza gripped her shoulder. "You okay? You look like you've seen a ghost!"
Jin nodded slowly. She hadn't told Seo-Ha or Panza about Lee- or, she supposed, Fire Lord Zuko. After all, they'd only went on one date together and he'd disappeared afterward.
"Aw, come on, the Kyoshi Warriors are out of my sight now!" Seo-Ha complained, tugging her long brown ponytail.
Jin started. "I... might be able to take you to them!"
Seo-Ha gasped. "Really?! How? How, Jin? Please? Please take me!" She said, grabbing Jin's arm and jumping up and down.
The roads were starting to clear a bit and the crowd that had been there to see the new Fire Lord was now drifting away.
"Well... Fire Lord Zuko's uncle owns a tea shop right here in Ba Sing Se. They might go to see him. It's worth a shot, right?" Jin asked tentatively.
Panza squeezed her arm with an eager grin. It felt like needles pinching her, but Jin merely winced and said nothing with a small smile.
Seo-Ha jumped onto a nearby rock and did a cartwheel in excitement. "Thank you thank you thank you! Oh gosh, Jin, have I mentioned how much I love you?!"
"Hey, how about me? I'm supportive too!" Panza argued with a good-natured smile.
Seo-Ha stuck her tongue out.
"Follow me, girls! This way!"
Jin led the way through the streets and past a group of kids playing in the sand with marbles and sticks, an elderly couple quarreling, and more. Everywhere, vendors yelled out prices and offers and the streets were busy busy busy.
"Fresh clams on sale only today! Only half-priced! Get them now!"
"Cabbages! Cabbages! Get your delicious cabbages here!"
"Come to my stall for the most beautiful necklaces in Ba Sing Se!"
An old woman grabbed Seo-Ha's hand.
"You! Pretty little girl!" The woman croaked, tugging Seo-Ha in her direction. Jin's friend gave her a panicked look like she was trying to say, Help me! I just want tea!
Jin giggled and nodded at Panza, following Seo-Ha and the old woman.
"Look! Pretty girl- you must have a special boy for you. This necklace will make him fall head over heels for you!" The woman held up a necklace with several long strands of thread in many different colors with a blue opal pendant. "See? Perfect for your dainty little neck!"
Seo-Ha coughed lightly. "I- I don't have a 'special boy', ma'am. But I'll take it anyway! It's too pretty to miss out on!" She quickly handed over coins and pranced away with her new necklace.
"Why didn't you tell her that you're not into guys?" Panza asked, confused.
Seo-Ha shrugged. "Well, I didn't need to. Plus, I want tea!"
Jin and Panza exchanged a look. The truth was, Seo-Ha always got nervous when people spoke about her love life. They always assumed that she liked boys, and if she corrected them, it could end in an awkward situation. Seo-Ha only trusted a few people with that information.
