“So did you two have fun?” Kale asked and I looked up to see him leaning casually against the doorframe, his school shirt unbuttoned all the way exposing a white wife beater clinging to his perfect chest. Stepbrother. I reminded myself looking back to my camera.
“He helped me pick out a new camera seeing as mine broke.”
“Yeah sure. . .” he replied trailing off.
I rolled my eyes. “Right because I went to the extent of buying a brand new camera and coming home with it just to cover up the fact that I had hot passionate sex with some guy I had met just three hours before.”
I looked up at him and he gave me a smile, not a smirk or a smug look but an actual smile. I raised the camera and clicked a picture of him quickly, catching him off guard. “Nice to know I inspire you.” He teased striking a pose as I tucked the camera into its new case. “Can I at least see if it turned out alright?”
“It’s the type where you have to develop the film so you’ll just have to wait until I get some free time in photography class. Besides, I was just making sure it worked I didn’t even have time to focus the lens properly.”
“So are you getting a ride tomorrow from Skylar then?”
“No but I can get one if you can’t take me.” I said pulling out my cellphone as though I were about to call Skylar right then and there for a ride.
Kale shrugged. “I don’t mind taking you. We’re both coming from and going to the same place anyways.”
He lingered in the doorway watching me as I packed up my new camera with a pleased smile on my face. Photography was one of my passions in life. “What was that look for?” I asked upon noticing the amused look that had crossed his face.
“Nothing.” He shook his head. “So dad wants me to introduce you to new people so you feel more at place in your new home.”
“Does he now?”
“So I was thinking; my friend Jakeson is having a party next week and he wanted me to see if you could come. It would be the perfect way to follow dad’s wishes without making it a big deal that you’re the new girl. Most of the people who will be there are from other schools.”
I raised an eyebrow as I got to my feet. “Jakeson? I don’t think I know who you are talking about.”
“Well you will soon enough. I bet you a hundred dollars he’s going to introduce himself to you tomorrow.”
“I don’t have a hundred dollars I just bought a camera.” I groaned. “Besides how do I know you’re not going to tell him to introduce himself to me?”
“That’s not my style.”
“Riiiiight.” I walked past him and into the hall.
“So the party?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know. I’ve never been to an actual party that didn’t involve a group of well dressed military men trying to coax me into attempting a waltz.”
Kale laughed stopped and the bottom of the stairs and laughed. “You’re kidding me right?” he called up after me as I made my way back up to my room. I didn't answer.
