Oh shit...I failed again, you thought.

"I'm so sorry. I don't even know how this happened," you apologized, but Ace was not having it.

"We're pulling you out. Bruce will be on babysitting duty," Ace commanded.

She drew herself closer to you.

"Get... your... damn... shit... together..." she growled.

You were so embarrassed and ashamed. You let your team down before you could even make a difference.

Seriously, what is wrong with me, you thought.

As if Bruce could sense how you felt, he lifted your chin up and gave you a light peck on the nose.

"Don't blame yourself. I got you."

As comforting as his words were, you couldn't believe it for yourself. You quickly got off of Bruce and stood planted on the ground.

"Ace, give me another chance please," you pleaded.

"Fuck no!" Ace roared as she turned back around to face you.

"You will not risk my men, do you understand me?! Get some damn rest and we'll keep you updated," she commanded.

She then turned to Bruce.

"Make sure he doesn't escape or else it's your fucking balls!" She instructed.

Like a mama's boy, he assured her that he wouldn't let you escape.

Ace and Jersey's team got back inside the car and drove off to complete the mission without you.

Fuck, you thought to yourself, I screwed up.

Your head hung low as you were slowly escorted back to the hideout with Bruce. A cold wind blew through the trees as you found yourself blindly trying to find the path back. You only had the moon as your guide in the complete darkness. You just prayed to god that you would get back in one piece.

As always, as if Bruce was in your fucking head, he reacted to your concerns..

"Kane, don't tell me you're afraid of the dark," Bruce asked hesitantly

"What! Of course not!" You shouted.

"Okay, okay, calm down..." Bruce said cautiously.

You stopped walking, and Bruce stopped automatically along with you.

"What is it? what's wro-" Bruce asked warily.

"DON'T treat me like a child! Yeah I may be a little fucked up in the head, but I'm a grown man!" You roared.

Bruce's expression seemed sullen from what you could see in the shadows. He stepped closer to you. Bruce was so close you could feel the warmth of his breath waft across your face.

"If you don't want people to treat you like a child, then stop acting like one," he husked.

You didn't expect him to say that; you expected him to be affectionate, to try to soothe you like he always did. However, this wasn't the case this time.

I knew it, he's tired of me already.

You knew he was right. You were acting like a child. Just as you thought he was through with you, he continued onward with more things that you didn't want to hear...not from him.

"You're so damn selfish!" He exclaimed in frustration, "not once have you thought about what life would be like if you weren't here."

You felt your anger rising. How dare he assume that you have not thought about the consequence of your death? It's all you could think about. A world that is peacefully moving forward without a burden like you, hell it, would be a heck of a lot better.
