Sorry it has taken me so long to publish, guys! But this chapter was unbelievably hard to write and I've been super busy! But shoutout to all of y'all who have been supporting me through the start. And I'm super pumped to know that I've gotten over 1K views! And I'm really sad to say that The Chronicles of Us will only be like 15 more chapters... But I love y'all and keep reading my darlings👌
"When is your family going to be here?"
Hayes asked me.
We were
laying
on a
blanket
in the sand
reading.
It was
almost dark,
the sky
was a
dim shade
of blue.
It was
the day
before
Thanksgiving.
The air
was sharp
and cold,
but I was
wearing
a coat,
so
I didn't mind.
"I have no idea."
I said.
In that moment,
my mom
called me
inside.
She said
they would
be there
in forty-five
minutes
and she
wanted me
to go
and get ready
because
we were going
out to eat.
I tied my hair
in a loose knot
and threw
on a sweater.
I sat on
the couch
with my mom.We saw
lights
through
the dark
window panes.
As soon
as the knock
on the
door came,
there was
a hush
in everything
on Earth.
My mother
grinned,
smoothed
out her hair
and headed
for the door
with her
black heels
slapping
the ground.
I saw
behind me
that Hayes
was watching us
with a grin
on his face.My mom
opened
the door.First it was
Edmund
who had
my
youngest
cousin,
Haven,
on his
shoulders.
Bryce,
my oldest cousin,
was the next
to enter.
He wrapped
his hand
around
my waist
and grinned
at me.
Then
Willow
and
Leonardo
came in,
and I was
the first
to hug them.
Leonardo
was very quiet,
he barely
spoke
any
English
but could
understand it
fairly well.
He was very
uncomfortable
with the
hugging
and the
kissing
on the
cheeks,
but when it came
to me,
he didn't mind
a bit.
Willow
was a lot
like Leonardo,
she didn't care
for much
affection.
But sometimes,
on days
of the family,
they'd have to
give in.
The next ones
to come in
were
Edmund's wife,
Carrie,
and their
eldest
daughter,
Emmaline.
Emmaline
ran over to me
and hugged me
tight.
Next
was the
second youngest
of them,
Reid,
who
toddled
over
to me
and
kissed me
on the cheek.
Then
Channing
was
right
behind them.
I stopped.
So did he.
I ran
as fast
as I could
into his arms.
I wrapped
my legs
around
his waist
and my arms
around
his neck,
and held me
stable
by holding
my back.
Everyone
laughed at us.
I laughed,
too.
When Channing
put me down,
he put his arm
around my neck.
"God, I've missed you, Ilene."
(The name Ilene stuck from when we were kids; there was a time that involved my pain and suffering and also when my leg hurt so bad once that I had to lean on him for support)
"I've missed you, too, Chan."
I told him.
I quickly
kissed him
on the cheek.
I saw
Hayes
leaning on
the banister
of the stairwell,
gazing down
at all
of my family.
"What are you looking at?"
Channing asked.
"Oh, nothing."
I still
didn't
take my eyes
off of
Hayes.
Alec
came into
the house then,
and he
greeted
each of us,
but only
shook
Leonard's hand
and hugged Willow.
Willow and Alec
had a
special
connection
that
no one
could
quite explain.
It must be their
Twin Powers,
was what
they always
jokingly said.
But it seemed
as if
Alec and Willow
could
read
each other's
minds.
They could
fill in
on each other's
sentences
and tell
what the
other twin
was thinking
by just
looking
at them.
They had the
closest
sibling
relationship
because my
Uncle Edmund
was
fifteen years older
than them
and my mother
was
twelve years older
than them.
So
Alec and Willow
were the babies,
and they
only had
each other
for a while.
