(JONAHS POV)
I sighed as I walked back into the game room. I can't believe Carina lied about my cousin. I never really pegged Carina to be petty. Sam and I had talked about some of my problems. She had helped me get through my depression. I know she's only joking about being my future wife.
"Kids? Dinner is ready!" Mom shouted. I groaned; I didn't want to see Carina right now. I trudged downstairs.
"Hey, Mom. Carina isn't feeling too well. She said she had a really bad headache." I told her.
"Oh. Alright. We'll bring up her dinner after we eat." Mom shrugged. "Let's eat."
Dinner was uneventful. No one mentioned Carina; it was as if her absence erased her from everyone's memory.
Suddenly, Tim's phone rang. He excused himself to answer the phone. When he came back a moment later, he had paled significantly.
"Is everything alright, Tim?" My mother asked.
"No, but I will speak to you in a little while about it." Tim said, causing me to become intrigued.
"What are you hiding?" I ask, ignoring the frown my parents give me.
"I cannot talk to you about it, but when the right time comes tonight, I will tell your parents." Tim said nervously.
I open my mouth, but am cut off by my mother. "That is perfectly fine. James and I don't mind the suspense."
I mutter incoherent thoughts as I finish eating. "Do you think we should bring Carina's dinner upstairs?"
"No. I think if she's going to be rude and not eat with her guests, she should go to bed hungry." Aunt Joan said dismissively.
Mom shot a dark look at her sister before turning to me. "Please take a plate up to Carina."
"Actually, Jaylen wants to do it." I mutter, sending my twin a glare.
"I wanted to see how she's feeling." Jaylen says slowly, confusion clouding her face.
"I will help." Tim announces, standing up and disappearing with Jaylen up the steps, plate in hand.
"Carina?!" Jaylen exclaims two minutes later. Feverish whispering occurs, and moments after, Jaylen and Tim come down with the plate still in their possession. Jaylen is now holding a piece of paper and Carina's phone. She carefully sets the items down before slapping me.
"Jaylen?!" Mom exclaims.
"Get that witch away from my sight!" Jaylen cried, lunging at Sam. Sam scrambled away as my father grabbed Jay.
"Everyone calm down! Jaylen, you better have a dang good reason to cause this chaos." Mom warns.
"Read the letter. Out loud." My twin growled. Mom warily grabbed the paper and cleared her throat.
"Dear Alenders,
Two years ago, I was walking down an alley when I was raped. The guy who did it was later found to be Doug Waters. I tried to forget about him, but he left his imprint on me. A few months later, I found out I was pregnant. He's been in jail ever since, and he has seven more years.
