Scene 7a-Ethan's Living Room-evening-Abusive Mother
(ETHAN is on his phone, lying on the couch)
ETHAN'S MOM: Hey Ethan. (ETHAN puts down his phone and sits normally) I got a text from Emma, Aiden's Mom. Why don't I read it to you.
ETHAN: O-Okay?
ETHAN'S Mom: "Hey Carol and James, so I think, we should hang out, our families. Because Aiden and Ethan are together mainly." You disobeyed me. And you will learn. (She slaps ETHAN, and ETHAN immediately grabs his face, because in the next scene, we will see his bruise) You disobey me, You pay the price. Be home tomorrow by 3:30, or else the punishments will be worse. For every minute you are late, you get one slap. Understand? (Ethan says nothing, crying) Understand?!
ETHAN: Yes Mother.
(ETHAN'S MOM leaves the room. ETHAN runs off crying)
Scene 7b-Ethan's Room-evening-Abusive Mother
ETHAN'S DAD: (He walks onstage) Ethan. I-I'm so sorry. I keep trying to stop her, but I can't.
ETHAN: Why aren't you beating me.
ETHAN'S DAD: I support you. (He sits on bed with Ethan, who has a visible bruise and is crying) Listen. I did once love your mother. But she now yells at me to do what she wants. She argues with me. I have been considering divorce. Ever since she said to me she hated you for being bi I wanted to divorce her. We are getting a divorce. I don't have any money though, so I need to work until I can fend for you. Then I will get you. I'm so sorry.
ETHAN: It is okay Dad. If I need to, I will move in with Aiden. I love you.
ETHAN'S DAD: I love you too. Let me get you ice. (He goes off stage, grabs ice, then enters again and gives it to Ethan)
ETHAN: Please stay here with me, for the night.
ETHAN'S DAD: Of course. (He hugs ETHAN) Scared?
ETHAN: Yes.
ETHAN's DAD: Don't be. I will get you to our new home as soon as I can provide for you.
ETHAN: Thanks.
ETHAN: Let's pack you a bag of clothes in your backpack, so if you find a way to leave this place, you can.
ETHAN: Okay.
