Author's note: So yeah I originally had Joyce and Hopper get home but I decided to make it Billy instead.
Will stared up at Billy with a nervous look. "She's... inside...." he mumbled shyly, causing Billy to nod and walk inside, gently pushing past the younger boy.
Max looked up from her spot on the couch. She immediately panicked and tossed a blanket over the young Steve beside her, who let out a whine. "Billy! Why... what are you doing here already?" She asked
"Maxine. Let's go. Your mom wants you home," Billy said, crossing his arms as he stood in front of her. Max groaned and started to stand when Billy took notice of the lump under the blanket.
"The hell is that? And where is Harrington? Isn't he supposed to be watching you rats?" Billy asked and grabbed the blanket."Billy wait-" Max tried to stop him, but it was too late and Billy tugged off the blanket to see a small child, holding a stuffed bear. The room went silent, everyone waiting for Billy's reaction.
"So is this Harrington's kid or...?""No Billy, you idiot! It is Steve!" Max sighed, pulling Steve onto her lap, "I can't just leave him hear with them..."
"Hey what's that supposed to mean? We can totally take care of Steve!" Mike cried out.
"I'm sure Will could... but you other boys are just... well boys. And El has no idea how to take care of a kid..." Max said."Yeah and neither do you. That's why I'm watching the brat," Billy announced, shocking everyone. He then reached down and took Steve away from Max, making the smaller boy drop the bear.
Billy held him out, looked at him, and sighed, "How'd you end up like this, Harrington?" The only response he got was a giggle and grabby hands at his face.
"Alright... you got him clothes and a toy. That's good. Did you give him anything to eat or drink? Something that's not pizza or soda?" Billy then asked as he held little Steve closer. All of the kids stayed still and quiet until El answered, "not pizza or soda...?"
That made Billy groan, "Max. Go look for something for the brat to eat and drink." Max nodded and took Lucas with her to help.
"The rest of you. Go and call your parents and tell them you're staying over. We can't leave Harrington by himself," Billy told the other kids, who all ran off to call home. Now Billy was alone with Steve. He plopped down on the couch and set the child next to him. Steve grabbed his bear and held onto it, staring up at Billy with innocent eyes.
"What are you looking at, Harrington?"
Steve giggled and shoved his face behind the bear as if he couldn't be seen. That was when Billy realized that Steve was playing a game. What was it called again...? Peek a boo, right? "Oh gosh, where did Steve go?" He snickered, hearing Steve giggle softly, "oh no. I've lost Steve. What am I going to do?"
Steve then moved the stuffed toy away from his face and Billy acted shocked, "there he is!"The two kept playing until the kids all came back in, ready for their sleep over and food for Steve. "He didn't have much but he did have milk and grapes," Max said, giving Billy a red solo cup of milk and a napkin full of green grapes. "Good enough," Billy replied and set it down on the table in front of them.
Dustin grabbed a grape and held it up to Steve, "here, Steve. Eat it." Steve looked at the grape and then turned his head away, letting out a small huff. "Aw come on, Steve... you've got to eat.. it's good," Dustin tried again to only fail.
"You have to show him. Mess with his little head and make him want to eat it," Billy said and took the grape from Dustin. "Here. Steve, watch," Billy then proceeded to eat the grape, "Ah it's so good. Guess little Stevie doesn't get to enjoy these delicious grapes."
Billy picked up another grape and watched as Steve reached up for it, clearly wanting to eat it now. Billy smirked and handed him the grape, watching as the small boy popped the grape into his mouth and ate it.
The kids all watched Billy and little Steve interact. Max snickered when she saw how good Billy was with the little kid. Billy glanced at his step sister and sent a glare her way.
"Alright, bed time, you little rats. Get whatever you need to be comfortable and we'll figure out how to change him back tomorrow," Billy announced, causing everyone to groan but agree.
Max went on the floor with everyone else, blankets and pillows scattered everywhere. She then watched as Billy picked Steve up into his arms and told him that he needed to use the bathroom and brush his teeth. The two then went upstairs, leaving the older kids alone in the living room.
"Do you guys think we'll be able to change Steve back...?" Dustin asked, frowning.
"Of course we will," Mike said firmly.
"Yeah! I bet we'll figure it out soon enough," Will reassured.Upstairs, Billy waited for little Steve to finish up in the bathroom. Once he heard the toilet flush, he opened the door and saw Steve struggling to reach the sink. Billy sighed and picked the little boy up, setting him on the side of the sink. "There ya go, big guy. Now brush your teeth," Billy said and Steve did as told.
The two then headed back downstairs to see the rest of the kids already fast asleep. Billy set Steve on the love seat as he took the couch. "We'll fix you tomorrow. Don't worry...,Night, Stevie," Billy said and drifted off to sleep.
This chapter was mainly just Billy and Steve bonding but everyone is going to get their moments with little Steve.
