Nina

"So, that human girl was your mate?" I asked the boy, who was sitting on the cold floor of the prison with his elbows resting on his knees.

As I had promised the boy, I went to the prison to meet him. When I came back from office, Saranya was yet to be back. So, I went to the prison alone. And as expected, the man near the gate didn’t let me pass. So I had to go back to the mansion to have 'permission' to visit the prison.

It was easy. Myra was at home. She just had to call that man for once and everything was done.

The man himself led me inside the prison. "What is she doing here?" One of those guards inside the prison asked him.

"The Queen's girl. You know!" They were speaking about me in such a manner in front of me, completely ignoring my presence, "she wants to visit that wolf kid."

After last night, he was being well taken care of. He had not declined his food anymore and the guards had been behaving well with him. Though he was still recovering from trauma, he was cheerful seeing me getting inside his cell and sitting beside him, on the floor.

David and I talked a lot. About his pack, his life, about my life and how I ended up here. Then he started to talk about that human girl from his college and out of curiosity I asked him if she was his mate or not.

I had read in those books that though uncommon it was not impossible for wolves or vampires to have humans as their mate.

"No." The boy chuckled, shaking his head. "In such a big world, we cannot be even sure if we would meet our mate in our lifetime. It took some of us even hundreds of years to meet our mates. Some of us don't even meet them. So we keep going."

"You like her?" I asked,  taking out the bar of chocolates I had brought for him.

"Hey, thanks." David seemed genuinely happy seeing them. After peeling off the wrapper of one of the chocolate bars he stopped and asked me cautiously, "those men won't do anything. Right?"

"For having these chocolates?" I laughed listening to him, "No . Don't worry. If they do, I'll complain to their boss."

And moreover I had stolen those chocolates from Saranya's fridge only.

"Oh yes! The Queen." David huffed while chewing the chocolate bar. "She is unusually obsessed with you. I mean don't take it the wrong way, " David added immediately, holding his hands up in the air.

Not only she, I was also unusually obsessed with her.

"It's alright. You are just telling the truth." Sighing I stretched my legs and opened another chocolate bar.

"I am just being honest with you. You really know very little of your kind. What I saw last night… I mean, it's quite common among wolves of high status to have their own harem." David added, resting his head against the wall. "Even after meeting their mate. And as they get obsessed and distracted very easily, they generally don't take much time to move from one toy to another. But your Queen seemed to be too much into you. It seemed more than mere infatuation."

"Whatever! It doesn’t matter. I am collared. That's it." I muttered.

"But she listens to you." Raising his eyebrows David exclaimed. "It's pretty unusual. From how much I have heard about her, she more or less prefers dictatorship."

I was getting uncomfortable by then. The continuous pondering over the same topic was disturbing for me. "So, how do you know, someone's your mate?" I asked resting my chin on my palm, clearly to change the topic.
