Remembering what Ayumi had said, you looked for a certain ramen shop that was still open this time of night. The sound of rocks crushing as you walked in the streets was rather comforting to you. Feeling the cold breeze brush your haori as it swayed was nothing unfamiliar. Looking up, you stopped walking and admired the sparkling stars. With barely any clouds in the sky, your mind wandered all the way back to your estate. Tea cup in hand. Giyu sitting beside you.
"The fuck?" Shocked from your train of thought, you shook your head and proceeded to walk.
It took a good few minutes till you found a small ramen shack. Good enough to sit 6 people, you saw 3 pairs of legs and heard slurping. Walking around the shack, you saw a nearby tree where you could station yourself till the last person would leave. Interviewing people about demons was not the best thing to do with food around. Perching yourself on the branch, you sat down and began the waiting game.
Your hearing focused on a lot things. The sound of crickets, cicadas, wind, and the sizzling of the pan from inside the establishment surrounded you. The aroma was very much inciting as well. The moment the last customer would leave, you would surely order one as you gathered more information.
A few minutes later, the last customer finally exited. You could hear their audible farewell's and jokes before silence filled the store. Seeing as it was finally time, you slid down the tree and made your way to the entrance.
The moment you entered, you were greeted with inviting smiles and steaming hot soup ready to be served.
Sitting yourself on down, you graciously accepted the bowl of ramen and ate. This would have to be one of the best ramen that you have tasted. It's soup was the perfect balance of shoyu and soya milk. It's noodles were chewy and firm. The meat practically melted in your mouth. There was a tinge of regret how you weren't able to invite your fellow slayer to this shop.
"Are you a demon slayer?" The man asked. He served you the ramen so he must be the owner.
"That I am. So, what can you share about the hole digging demon?"
"I heard that at this time of night, he's off looking for his prey. He eats teenagers, so I've heard. I've never seen him though. If you're lucky, you might see him tonight. He usually attacks at intervals. 3 to 4 days at a time. He chooses his place randomly since the sightings aren't concentrated into an area." The owner said as he stirred the boiling hot soup. There was fear plastered on his face as he shared his information.
"Don't worry." You said as you brought the bowl up to your mouth to drink up the remaining soup. "We'll get him."
Handing him the money, you left the shop and proceeded to walk along the forest.
"Karasutori." You called out for your raven. It took a while but he managed to land on your forearm. "Please relay this to Giyu. If I don't come back within the next hour, tell him I'm in the forest. Please and thank you, Karasutori."
Staring at him as he flew away, your sight landed back on the dirt road leading deeper into the forest.
Walking for what seemed to be 30 minutes, you finally saw what you were looking for. A burrow big enough for a demon to crawl his way in.
Creeping up to it, you saw how small cobwebs had formed. Deciding to move even deeper into the forest, you took out your blade and proceeded. Heart rate increasing with each step you took. A few more steps and you saw a bunch of other burrows. Probably 4-5 meters away from each other. You couldn't help but wonder, how this demon caught its prey. Did he sneak up to them? Did he knock them unconscious? The feeling of being watched drowned you.
