New Greenie?!

Shock.

Shock is the only word that can describe my feeling at that moment. New Greenie?! And a girl?!

I stood still beside Newt. All the clatter went deaf and I couldn't hear Newt shouting at me. The next moment I knew, my feet took off towards the Box.

I stood about 10 meters away from the Box. People were crowding. Clint was standing on top of the Box looking down at the newcomer.

"Ellie." Clint spoke my name boldly for some reason.

"Ellie." He repeated when I didn't respond. The crowd formed a clear pathway for me to walk up to the Box.

I gave Clint a puzzling look. "See for yourself." was his response.

I looked down at the Box to see a girl flat on her back with hair a shade darker than mine. She also had my grey-blue eyes. But the one noticeable attribute was letters written on her arm:
E-L-L-I-E

That was my name. Me. Why in the world would a stranger pop up unexpected with my name written on her arm?! Did she know me and was trying to...

"I'll take her to the hospital to see if everything is alright. She's still not up." Clint's voice interrupted my thoughts. "Ellie? Do you know her?"

"Why would I know her? I remember as much as you remembered when you first came to the Glade." I answered sharply.

"Well, I was just thinking that maybe..."

I walked off before I ever heard Clint finish his sentence. As I stomped through the green grass, I thought out loud to myself.

"Why am I the one that everything happens to?! Before I even get settled down into the Glade and figure out what I want to do and why I'm here, all this crazy stuff happens! I don't know what my life was like before I came to this shuckin' Glade full of slintheads, I knew it wasn't this crazy..." I trailed off when I saw 3 boys leaning against my post in the garden.

One boy was laying on the grass, and 2 boys were leaning against my post. The one on the ground sat up. It was Gally. When he saw me, the auburn haired boy got up and mumbled something to his friends and started to follow me.

"Hey, Ellie? Can I talk to you?" I didn't respond so he continued. "Do you have any idea why the box has-"

"No."

"Oh. Well I sorta...kinda ...might.... know..."

"What?!"

"Well, I know this sounds crazy, but I saw her in a dream. I couldn't exactly see where I knew her from, but I just saw her staring at me. I know I might be losing my mind-"

"No." I answered. "No, you're not losing your mind. I saw it too. Just not her... Someone else." I didn't want to mention that I saw a boy named Thomas. "I'm glad I'm not the only one."

Gally looked at his feet while we were walking, "I talked to the boys about it, and they think I made it all up. But I know for sure I saw her. And it wasn't anything good..."

We silently walked to the Deadwood. When we were on the outskirts of the mini-forest, I saw something move.

"What's that?" I shouted.

"Oh, don't mind the beetle-blades. They're just there so that the shuck Creators can spy on us." I nodded even though I didn't understand.

"Well, I have to go back to the boys, see you later, Ellie." Gally said quickly and ran off.

I slowly walked to a tree right outside the Deadwood and sat down. I drifted off into a slumber...

I saw myself. I was sitting in a chair in a room completely white, and I was in a circle with 2 other people: Thomas (the boy from my "dream" in the hospital) and the new girl from the box. Everyone was at the age of 13 about.

I saw my young self say, "So, what are we going to do?" My young self said it flatly with no emotion while I was looking at the ground.

"We continue. That's all we can do. Continue." The other girl said.

"Brenda, but how? Everyone is dead!" I said, and my head shot up with a look of fury in my eyes.

(Hm... So her name is Brenda...)

"I don't know, we keep the same candidates... Just continue what we were doing." Brenda said even though she had no emotion.

Thomas looked up. He had a tear running down his face. "We can't stop no matter what. We need to find a cure as soon as possible!" He abruptly scooted out of his chair and stormed outside the bright room.

A cure? What did that mean?! What were they talking about? For some reason, I had a feeling that it connected with what the dark shadow told me: something about creators, trials, difficulty, and passing... I needed to get out of this prison!
