Good Job. You Just Killed Yourself.

The day went on like any other. Since it was my second week, I was still rotating around the Glade's jobs, and today I was helping out in the Garden. I saw the Runners grouping outside of the Homestead like Minho said they would because of the meeting.

Time passes, and they were still not out there. I saw Minho running towards the garden. When he reached me, he asked, "Hey! Have you seen Alby around?"

"No... He was suppose to meet up with you-"
"Yeah. I know. That was hours ago. He's nowhere to be seen." And then he ran off.

The day went on, and I found out that gardening gave you blisters. I soon got so distracted by my work that I forgot about the whole Alby-thing.

When the day was almost over, I was released from my tedious work. I was walking towards the Dead-Wood for some peace and quiet, but as I walked, I saw a large group of boys gathering by the entrance to the Maze. I started walking over there when I heard muttering in the crowd.

Once I reached the edge of the crowd, I looked around for someone I knew. Aha. "Hey Gally!" I shouted and waved a hand.

He gave me a worried look and then stared off into the maze. "Hey." I pushed my way through the crowd of sweaty boys.

"Hey," I repeated when I reached Gally. I pushed his shoulder when he didn't respond again. "Hey! I'm talking to you," I kept nagging.

"What." He whispered, annoyed of course.

"Why... why is everyone... here?" I whispered.

"Alby. He hasn't come back still... And Minho went in to find him... the doors are about to- to ... close." He choked out.

I stood still for a moment. Processing what was actually happening. The doors about to close. With Alby- the leader of Glade- and Minho -not only my friend but also the keeper of the runners- both stuck inside. Chuck's voice passed through my mind, 'No one has survived a night in the Maze.' And that's when I realized it: Alby and Minho were doomed... if they didn't make it out before the doors closed, they were already dead because of what fate lay ahead of them in that grave of a maze.

As soon as I decided that Gally wouldn't say much more, I saw a dark headed figure in front of me: Brenda.

I tapped her shoulder. she responded with a quiet, "Hey." I took a step in order to be on her direct left. "How long have you all been here?" I asked her.

"Hm. Like maybe an hour. But I saw the group forming like 2 hours ago."

We stood in silence then... and waited.

Then, right as the light was dimming on the horizon (technically the horizon was the top of the walls) I heard a loud grunt from the maze. It echoed and bounced off the walls. My head jerked toward Gally. He heard it too. It was Minho rounding the corner of the Maze, and he was holding a limp Alby.

And all of a sudden, I heard the big creak of the walls. They. Were. Moving.
It was an unstoppable force moving way too fast for me to think.

Then everyone started shouting at Minho. Saying that he could make it, but they weren't stepping in to help him. But then I realized, in that moment, Minho would never make it.

I jerked my head toward Brenda. And she did the same. And without passing any words with our mouths, we both sprinted ahead toward the closing doors.

I could hear Newt screaming at me, but I didn't care at this point. All I could think of was saving a friend.

Hand in hand, we squeezed through the shutting doors and I entered the maze for my first time.

The giant doors slammed shut behind us, and the shouting voices were muffled out. My heart dropped inside my chest because I realized what I had just done. As if reading my mind, Minho said, panting,
"Good job. You just killed yourself."
