HERE I AM

with another unfortunately late update.

I know I've said this like three times but the next one will be faster, since I've written a vast majority of the second half of it (I'm really excited about the next couple instalments. everything is gonna come together, or at least that's what I'm trying for). There are probably a lot of writing mistakes here, I wrote this over a long period of stopping and starting again so its not the best, and there is a lot of dialogue this time and less action but it's important soooooo, sorry not sorry?

Many implications are made, particularly at the end...keep an eye out. I sort of revealed things earlier but I think I made it wayyyy too hard to catch. (Something with those files and stuff she found...)

I also put in some batam - a favourite of mine, though I'm probably shit at writing them so if you have ideas, lemme know - seeing as dating means interacting with your partner's family and all that.

Hope you enjoy!

Please comment, those really keep me going and I answer every one I see.

Jess wakes up with a headache.

"Mmmph." She rolls over and buries her face in the pillow next to hers. Her eyes blink open at the feeling of an empty space next to her.

Jess pats the cooled off area. Dick probably got up a good half hour before she woke up. Groggily, she sits up and stretches.

The fuzziness slowly recedes as she slips out of bed and pads into the bathroom. The face looking back at her is tired, like the way she might be after a night out, and a little drawn from a restless night. She always feels a little unsteady after taking meds to fall asleep. God knows she couldn't deal without them last night. The timing was terrible, too - she had to wait until she was alone and could do it without Dick noticing, but didn't think about having to act alert instead of drowsy afterwards.

Due to Dinah and Oliver's combined lack of traditional parenting ideals, sleeping over at her boyfriend's house in the same room - door closed and everything - wasn't a point of discord. When Roy of all people objected to the idea, Dinah said "If we can trust Dick with Jessica's life and safety, trusting them to be respectful and behave in private isn't a stretch."

Besides, considering Dinah's been aware of Jessica's otherwise active sex life, Jess was never worried about being allowed to share a closed room with her boyfriend of going-on-eight-months.

Also, considering Oliver let Roy run around with a bow and arrow before he was eighteen, Jess has never thought of them as conventional parents.

Jess pulls on a sweater and shuffles out of the room.

When she gets downstairs she can smell pancakes. Sweeter than Dinah's, not burnt like Ollie's. And Dick can't cook for shit, so...

Brows pulled into a frown, she turns the corner into the dining room and looks into the kitchen.

Her boyfriend is grinning (he looks amazing, which would make her self conscious in comparison seeing as he pulls off the just-woke-up look way better, except he's seen her naked and hasn't complained so whatever) and leaning against the counter, saying something to Roy.

Roy, who is at the stove.

Roy, who is currently making pancakes.

Jess blinks at the sight. She watches Dick make a joke and Roy go to hit him with the spatula. Dick hastily avoids it and releases a laugh not unlike the ones he has during fights with adversaries.
