Today, Robotnik was still working hard on his new project. He had to throw himself into it so he couldn't think about...things.
He felt a tap on his shoulder which made him tense. He turned to look at Stone.
"What now?"
Stone handed him an envelope and left before Robotnik could say anything. Ivo opened it, seeing a typed-up letter explaining directions to an undisclosed location. He quickly realized that it was the feeling room and went in there. He saw Stone holding a large styrofoam cup with, presumably, Stone's specialty.
Robotnik did not seem very happy with him. "What are you doing, Stone?"
"I'm here now, Sir. I'm sorry I wasn't there. I--"
"Shut the hell up." Robotnik went over and gave him a huge hug. He buried his head into the crook of Stone's neck. He started to tear up.
Stone stood there for a second before wrapping his arms around his doctor. "Your latte is going to get cold."
With a soft chuckle, Robotnik left the embrace to take a sip. As he was enjoying his drink, Stone went to the journal and handes it to him. "Are you willing to describe what had happened? If not, that is perfectly okay. I just want to help you."
Robotnik put the cup down. He looked at Stone. "Not today." He fell down on the soft part of the room. "But I could use some...ahem...physical affection."
Stone tossed the journal and went over to Robotnik. The agent laid the doctor on top of him like a blanket. Robotnik had his arms around Stone's waist, head in his lap.
As the two were laying there, Robotnik finally felt at ease. That was until he felt a pang in his stomach. He shifted uncomfortably, groaning a bit while breaking the soft silence that fell on them. It made Stone come back to reality.
"Are you okay, sir?"
Robotnik shook his head, trying to reach for the journal. The journal itself was pretty worn now. It's black with silver sharpie writing "Doctor Robotnik's emotion journal" and has a smiley face on it.
Stone grabbed it for him. Once Ivo got it, he sat in Stone's lap, facing away from his assistant as he wrote quickly, "I have a sudden sense of...worry? Its a mix of worry and something else."
Stone held him by the waist, only letting go to grab the journal when the doctor was done writing. He mumbled the words as he read them. With every word was a softer and more worried tone.
"Sir, may I ask what caused this?"
Robotnik ripped the journal out of his hands. He wrote down, "I don't know. I just thought of how nice this feels, but there appears to be something weighing me down." He slowly handed the journal back, leaning on Stone while he was reading Ivo's words.
"Oh dear...Doctor Robotnik, I think we may need to talk about personal stuff it get it out." He kissed the side of Robotnik's head. The doctor had a concerned look on his face.
The next words written in the journal was, "why can't we just stay like this? It's better than to be tormented by the memories."
Stone sighed. "It's not healthy. I want you to be healthy. Emotionally and physically." He shifted both of them, making sure Robotnik was still on top. "You nees to learn to talk to me."
Robotnik didn't do anything. He just sat there, cuddling up to Stone. After a long while, Stone slid him off. The doctor looked at him with wide eyes and a face of surprise.
"I don't want to leave you, but I think you need to think alone. I'll still be here, in this room, but I refuse to touch you." Stone crossed his arms.
Robotnik pouted a bit, grabbing the notebook and scribbling down, "I am your boss. You do as I say you useless worm!"
Stone read it, chuckling sadly. "Nice try, but words will not effect me."
Robotnik stared at him, still acting childish. Stone eventually just looked away and oretended he wasn't there. It made that small pang in Ivo's stomach grown into a larger and larger hole. He was bouncing his legs, darting his eyes to different parts of Stone's body, and was trying not to cry.
Stone noticed the anxious behaviour and went over to him slowly. "Will you please help me understand you?"
Robotnik was trying to play it off. He used small grabby hands at Stone, who shook his head. "We need to expel this anxiety from you. We need to talk about it." He took a second before adding, "you need to write it down."
Robotnik was bitter. He took the journal and angrily wrote down what his panic attack was about. In the middle of writing it, he began to feel it again. The suffocation, the pain in his chest, the loud noises replaying in his head.
Stone took notice. "Do you need me to--"
It didn't matter what came next, Robotnik had already attached himself to Stone. He wqs shaking so bad. The screaming, the fighting, it was all too much.
Stone played with his hair. "You're going to be okay. I'm here, Agent Stone is here. You're safe. You are in a safe place."
The more reassurance Ivo got, the better he got. Slightly. Everything was still too loud to really hear Stone, but the more he focused, the less memory he could remember. His bresthing was stil quick and shaky.
Stone kissed his head, rubbing his back. "Can you breathe to a count, honey?"
Robotnik didn't answer.
Stone nodded, "you're breathing is too rapid, Doctor. You need to breath on my count, okay? Breath in for 4, hold for 8, then release for 6, okay?"
Robotnik nodded. Stone began to count the 4, and as he did so, Ivo inhaled as slow as he could, but it was hard. Then, he tried holding it for 8 seconds, which was still difficult. He was relieved when he got to exhale.
Stone kept counting, watching as his boss followed his directions. He began to follow his own advice to help Robotnik get a better feel for it. Ivo was getting better with each breath, but then began to think back to the orphanage. The way they punished kids who got out of line. Kids who got anythung lower than a 95% in a class. Kids who were less than perfect.
Robotnik started to whimper softly. The assistant kissed his cheek. "Honey, focus on me, okay?"
-Robotnik looked at him, nodding softly. He began to memorize his face. His beard, his eyes, everything. Everything was just so nice to look at. He leaned in for a kiss from Stone, who pushed him away lightly.
"What are you doing, sir?" They both blushed. Robotnik took a deep breath, finding his journal and writing his explanation.
"I thought that kissing you would be okay. You kissed my head multiple times. You called me 'pet names' I thought we were there."
Stone read it, sighing a way Ivo had never heard from his assistant. It was filled with disappointment. Ivo tensed more.
"They are endearing things, but doctor, I don't like you like that."
Robotnik stared at him. He had miscalculated. He had no room for miscalculations. He had no room for feelings. He pointed at the door, instructing Stone to leave. The agent did as he was told. He left as quick as he could.
Ivo was alone again. Trapped in his room. He wrote in his journal about how he was feeling. Betrayal. He hugged a pillow tightly, but it barely helped. He sighed, trying to convince himself it was going to be okay. He tried to be Stone. He tried to be the one rock in his life because every other person broke him in some way.
