'What got your knickers in a twiddle?'

The classes went quickly and soon it was lunchtime. I bought my food and went to sit down, only to find my way blocked by someone. I looked up and rolled my eyes at the face of Cato Hadley.

“Hey Clove, so I was wondering if you were okay?”

“Why do you care?” I spat, trying to get around him. He blocked my way again so I shifted my weight, realising I would be here for a while. His face fell when I said those words ‘why do you care?’

“Because- you didn’t look very well on Friday night”

“Nobody did, we were all drunk” I said before pushing him aside and marching over to my friends. I could hear him calling after me but I ignored him.

I sat down and glared as I tucked into my cheesy fries.

“What got your knickers in a twiddle?” Finnick asked half-heartedly, I continued to glare so he gulped before starting a rapid conversation with Annie. Katniss and Peeta ignored me as well, knowing perfectly well that it would be better to leave me alone when I was angry.

When the bell rang to signal the end of lunch I hadn’t spoken to anyone and I really didn’t want to go to English, I had Finnick and Katniss in my class and they would be bugging me non-stop.

I walked to English about a step behind Katniss and Finnick, they were laughing about something that had happened at lunch. I pretended I didn’t care but it bugged me when they kept glancing around to see if I was okay. I scowled at them a few times but it didn’t stop them from being so worried. I was sat down next to Katniss when she pounced on me.

“So Clove, what is wrong with you? You were fine this morning but now...” she trailed off as our teacher, Miss Morphling, called for silence. I looked at her anxious expression and shrugged before mouthing ‘I’ll tell you later’. I couldn’t keep annoyed at Katniss, she was one of the nicest people I knew, and we were really close because we both enjoyed sport.

Mrs Morphling finished the register and told us we would be doing a practice assessment on ‘A midsummer’s night dream’. I sighed as she handed out the paper, I wouldn’t be able to tell Katniss my problem anymore. Oh well, was that really such a bad thing?

At ten to three I was getting restless, I had finished my essay a few minutes ago and had checked through it enough times to know there was nothing wrong with it. It really annoys me when teachers tell you to check through your work. You check through it once and know if it’s right or wrong, five times doesn’t make a difference.

I turned to my left to see that Katniss was still writing rapidly on her fourth piece of paper. My eyebrows burrowed as I looked at the double sided sheet in front of me. I hadn’t tried hard at this essay because of my mood and now I would get a bad grade, why to Cato Hadley have to ruin everything. I was tapping my pencil impatiently when a small buzzing sound filled the room. Everyone’s heads looked up from their papers to see what it was. Katniss was the first to understand and checked her phone, but it wasn’t her. Everyone else continued to check their phones but still the buzzing resumed. I bent down to look in my bag even though I was sure my phone was on silent. I pulled it out and suddenly the buzzing was louder, echoing through the room. I clicked on my messages and saw one from an unknown number. I looked at it before rolling my eyes again.

‘I’m sorry about earlier... Cato x’

“Bastard” I muttered under my breath and looked up slowly, before looking back down; in front of me stood Mrs Morphling, with her hand held out and a scowl on her face.

“After school detention for having your phone out in class and swearing at a teacher” she growled and I wanted to tell her that I wasn’t swearing at her but I know she wouldn’t believe me. I handed my phone over to her outstretched hand before slumping in my seat for the last five minutes.
