Friends in the end

The minute the bell rang I grabbed my bag before walking over to Mrs Morphling’s desk so I could collect my detention slip. She spoke as she handed it to me.

“I’m very disappointed in you Clove; this is your first detention in my class since you started”

‘Well I wasn’t being harassed by an annoying teenage boy called Cato until this year’ I was really tempted to say but restrained myself. I apologised before turning my back on her and rolling my eyes as I walked out of the door and down the corridor to the detention room.

There were already four other people in there when I entered, how did people get detention so fast? I recognised Gale and his friend Thresh, they were supposed to be writing lines by the looks of it but, considering that Mr Abernathy was in charge of detention, they were just on their phones, probably texting their latest girlfriends.

I didn’t know the other two but they were girls and were currently putting on another layer of make-up. Gale kept looking at the blonde one, raising an eyebrow as she pouted so she could put on some more lipstick. I really do wonder what goes through that boy’s mind sometimes.

I handed my slip to Mr Abernathy, well; I put it on his desk because he was asleep as usual, before sitting down in a seat furthest away from the rest of them. I pulled out my maths homework and proceeded to start it, I was interrupted when the door slammed open to reveal none other than Cato Hadley, the boy I had been trying to avoid all day.

“Sorry I’m late guys” he said loudly causing everyone to look up from what they were doing. They all nodded curtly at Cato as he walked into the room. He sat down next to Gale and they started talking, they were obviously regular visitors to detention. I rolled my eyes before turning back to my maths. Cato looked up at this precise moment and began to look around the room. His eyebrows rose when he spotted me, he apologised to Gale before standing up and walking over to me. I shifted my chair closer to the wall as he pulled on up at the desk beside me. Then he leant in close and whispered in my ear; “Sorry about earlier, why are you here anyway?”

“You” I snapped back, half whispering as he continued to lean close to me. Then he rammed a hand down on the page in front of me.

“The radius is 5.8cm” he said and I was shocked as I checked it on the calculator, it was in fact 5.8cm.

“I didn’t know you were good at maths”

“There are a lot of things you don’t know about me” he said calmly and I felt myself blush slightly, I bowed my head down so he wouldn’t see my flush cheeks. He leant away from me and just sat on his chair, gazing at the clock until...

“So why are you in here?”

I looked up from the maths question I was solving and sighed “You texted me so I checked it, then I got annoyed so said bastard out loud in class, Mrs Morphing was stood opposite me so she thought I was saying it to her”

He nodded at my story before smirking “So, you think I’m a bastard”

I chuckled before raising an eyebrow “Of course”

He chuckled as well before glancing at the clock once again, it was twenty five past three, just five more minutes to go and then I would be free to get away from detention and Cato, even though he wasn’t really that bad when he wasn’t with his popular pose.

At half past, Mr Abernathy’s head shot up and he said we could go, everyone stormed out of the classroom but I hung back. I didn’t want to walk out with them lot, I would look I complete retard walking out with Thresh and Gale, people would immediately think we were dating. I packed my bag slowly and looked up before gasping.

“Thought you might want to walk out with someone” Cato said from the doorway and I sighed before smiling sarcastically.

“Sure, why not”

We proceeded in walking out of school in silence. When we reached the car park I went my way and he went his. I got into my Land Rover and revved the engine, it wouldn’t start. I tried again and again before I peered at the light that told me if the tank was full or not. It was completely empty, I should have filled it yesterday but I was so worked up with Cato I didn’t really think at all. I got out of the car, angrily slamming the door before locking it and starting down the road. I could call Katniss or someone to pick me up but they were probably all busy, my dad would still be in the office at this time so he was a big no. I suppose I will just have to walk home.

I started off down the pavement and was halfway down the road to our school when a huge Audi q7 drove up beside me. I kept walking, not thinking that it was for me until a voice shouted out...

“CLOVE”

I spun around to face the shining white car and was surprised to see Cato Hadley sticking his head out the driver’s window.

“Do you need a lift? I saw you slam your car door and march off down the road”

I stood as still as a statue as I thought this through my mind. A lift home in a big expensive car with Cato Hadley, what harm would it do. I mean, I could always get him to stop halfway or something.

“Okay, thanks” I said casually, even though deep down inside there were butterflies fluttering around in my stomach. I got into the passenger seat and he revved the engine before driving off down the road.

I told him the directions of my house and we were there in a matter of minutes. I thanked him and went to open the door but something grabbed my arm. I spun back around to see him gripping my arm tightly. I smile on his face.

“Clove” he began “I’m really sorry about the way I treated you before, do you think we could just start over, turn over a new leaf” he asked, guilt pouring through his piercing blue eyes. I grinned before nodding.

“Of course, I’m sorry too, you’ve been trying to apologise for ages and I have been completely ignoring you”

He beamed at me before holding out his hand “Friends” he asked and I shook it before pulling him in for a bear hug. He hugged me back as I whispered in his ear, as he did so many times to me.

“Friends”

*Authors note* OMG!! I can't believe I finished it... that's the first story I have ever finished!!! I am soooooo happy!!!
