Two days later...

The birds chirped in the trees that rustled high above me.

I sighed, staring at the message I'd sent him about two hours ago. "Guess he's not coming." I pressed the power button, and my phone screen went dark.

I should stop doing this. I should stop trying to contact him when it was obviously clear that he didn't want to talk or have anything to do with me.

But I couldn't.

I was currently at the park, at the spot where I usually met Shaun, hoping that he'd show up. He was partly the reason why I was GuiTara. He was the one who gave me all these great ideas and encouraged me to share my talents with the world. If he was going to ghost me after doing all that, then I at least deserve an explanation, right?

Shaking my head, I pushed the power button again, bringing my phone back to life and pulling up his number. I hit call and brought the phone to my ear. A familiar hum echoed out of the device.

The number you are calling cannot be reached. Please try again later.

A groan left my mouth. The same feedback over and over again. This was probably a hint, that I should just give up on reaching out and move on with my life. It was going to be hard, but it was the best thing for me to do right now.

Suddenly, a thunderous rumble echoed out of the approaching stormy, grey clouds. Taking that as my cue to leave, I got on my feet and made my way towards the exit, hoping to make it back to the restaurant before the rain started.

I let myself in from the pantry back door. The warmth and sizzle of freshly cooked meals enveloped me as I walked into the kitchen.

"Hey, Tara." Zazu waltz past me with a smile, holding a bowl of yellow *gari.

"Hey Zazu." My lips tipped up. "Prepping for the luch rush?"

"You know it." He shrugged, setting the bowl down on the order table. "Pam doesn't want us running out of anything."

I shook my head. "Ever the perfectionist."

"Zazu!" The perfectionist soon made an appearance. "I'm done with the beans, so can you please speed things up with the plantains? Maria is busy with the arepas."

"Sure thing, boss." Zazu shot me one last smile then shuffle over to his station.

"Hey little sis." Pam turned to me, flipping a kitchen napkin onto her shoulder. "Where have you been?"

"The park."

"Oh, did he show up?" She asked, knowing exactly who I went to look for since I told her about Shaun's sudden disappearance.

"Nope. As usual." I leaned against the counter.

Pam's eyebrows dipped in thoughtfulness. "Hmm, maybe he's out of town."

"Even if he is, it wouldn't kill him to reply to any of my texts," I huffed out frustration. "But it's fine. I'm beginning to think it's his way of telling to move on. So that's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna focus on my life and my music." And with a newly found sense of determination, I pushed myself up. "Are any of the band members around?"
