🎶Somethin' happens when everybody finds out ~ Taylor Swift

Tara Afua Henrie●

The next day

"Ok, guys." Luca's voice rang out from the speakers in the booth. "We're starting from the top. You ready?"

"Yeah." I fixed my headset back on, waiting for the background music.

Jax nervously scratched the back of his head, fidgeting with the headset in the process.

"Relax, Jax," I assured him. "You have nothing to be anxious about."

"Easy for you to say." He turned to me. "You've been doing this the entire week. I haven't been in a recording booth in years. What if I mess up?"

"Then we'll just do another take. Seriously, just have fun with it. You wouldn't be in here if Luca didn't think you had the potential to pull off those high notes."

"She's right, Jax," Luca's voice echoed out of the speakers. "This is going to be just like we rehearsed."

"Yeah, right." He drew in a deep breath and blew out a puff of air.

"Hey." I placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "You got this, I know you do."

He smiled at me, his tension easing slightly. "Thanks, Tara. I'll give it my best shot."

As the instrumentals began to play, I turned back to face the microphone. Past the glass, I caught Eden watching us. There was a flicker of something in her gaze-jealousy or envy, perhaps-but she quickly averted her eyes before I could decipher it. Oblivious Carlos, sitting beside her, gave us a thumbs up as a sign of encouragement.

The soft strumming of my guitar recording filled the booth, and I closed my eyes, letting the rhythm guide me.

🎶When the night is cold and dark

And you're feeling all alone

Know that I'm just a call away

You never have to be on your own🎶

I took care of the intro, leading up to the chorus, which was a build-up of the band's instruments in the background music. Jax's part started from the second verse, and as it approached, he sucked in a deep breath. His voice wavered at first but grew stronger with each word.

🎶When the world's too much to bear

And the weight is on your heart

Just remember I'm right here

We'll never be apart🎶

Jax's eyes met mine, and I nodded in encouragement. He continued with more confidence, his voice blending harmoniously with mine as we sang the chorus together.

🎶Call on me, when you need a friend

I'll be there, right to the end

Call on me, when you feel the strain

I'll lift you up, take away your pain🎶

When we reached the bridge, the music slowed, creating an intimate moment. Jax and I stood closer to our microphones, our voices soft and tender.
