Emma was really engrossed in the book she was reading until Kai appeared and snatched the book from her.
" Hey! "
" Alice in wonderland? Seriously? What are you twelve? "
" It's a classic."
" hmm.. you should read black beauty. One of my favourites. I've read it so many times that I've lost count. "
Okay. Wow.
" Don't give me that look. Yes, I read it. What do you expect a sociopath who's locked in a prison world for 18 years to do? " he said. Emma opened her mouth to say something but then changed her mind.
" Alice on the other hand-"
" Wait, you've read this too? "
" Of course. Try imagining me making out with the red queen," he laughed at his own joke.
" Gross." She moved to shove him playfully when he caught her hand and placed it on his chest. Emma tried not to blush but did anyway.
" My lady, lunch is served. Will you do the honour of accompanying me?"
Lunch. She wasn't sure she wanted to eat. But said anyway," Why, yes. "
"Alright so, eat quickly but don't forget to chew and drink loads of water," she told herself for the hundredth time.
But forgot it all when she took the first bite of her food. Kai certainly was a very good chef.
" This is so delicious," She moaned.
He nodded not looking up from his plate.
Emma ate slowly, enjoying, relishing every bite of food. She even asked for more. She stopped chewing when she remembered. But it was too late. The plate was empty. She took too long to eat and didn't drink any water. She swallowed the feeling that rose up in her chest. She couldn't let herself feel full. It was too much. She needed to purge it out.
" Hey, wanna go to the bar later? " he asked whilst chewing his food.
" Su-"
Her words were cut short by a slow vibration on the ground. Kai looked up from his plate, eyes wide.
It was like an earthquake, but it only grew louder and painful. Emma didn't know if kai felt the pain but she did. Her chest became heavy and it felt like it was on fire from within.
" What are you waiting for? RUN!" He shouted.
Emma didn't run because of the pain in her chest but she walked fast.
