" Try harder Emma," Kai said, sighing in frustration.

" I might hurt you! "

" You know,  I'm slightly offended by that."

They were at the Mystic falls high school. Kai had insisted that it was a good place to practice his magic since everyone was on winter break.

Elena had blacked out after Kai had tried turning her blood to acid. While Kai was performing the spell, Emma had transferred everything Elena was feeling into her own body.

Elena was Damon's girlfriend. Even though they broke up, she had once been his joy. Emma couldn't watch her get hurt. So she gave Elena the illusion that she was being hurt when it was her who was silently enduring all the pain.

"Absolutely not," Emma said when Kai asked her to throw an energy blast at him. He had challenged her to break his shields using her magic. "Might I remind you that this is not the prison world and that you can actually die."

A look of amusement settled over his face. "Are you worried about me?"

Emma gave him a look that he knew meant, isn't it obvious?

" It's weird," he said drily. "People are usually worried that I'm alive. Anyways, you want something to eat? You haven't had much to eat. I think I saw a vending machine down the hall." She wasn't hungry but before she could tell him that, he'd already disappeared.

Emma sat leaning against a wall. Exhausted. Taking away Elena's pain had drained her. She had excused herself to go to the bathroom when Kai had performed the spell on Elena. There she had taken away her own voice so that her screams wouldn't alert Kai.

She felt hands tuck her hair behind her ear. She opened her eyes to find Kai gazing at her. Stars danced in his eyes. He settled next to her, lending her his shoulder to lay her head on.

He handed her a mountain dew and a pack of skittles. "This is all they had," he scowled. "We can go out for a proper lunch if you want."

She took the mountain dew from his hand. Kai opened his own and took a long sip. Emma breathed heavily on his arm. Kai noticed she didn't make any move to eat or drink. So he opened the can for her, nudging her softly. "Tired?" He asked.

She hummed in response. He popped skittles into his mouth and offered one to Emma. The strawberry flavour slowly melted on her tongue.

" Can I  ask you something? I mean– you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

Emma knew what he wanted to talk about. She didn't mind telling him now. He deserved to know. " Yeah."

" Is...is it true what he said? Is that why you– I mean–"
