Our Unexpected Life 4

Chapter XVI

After going down several things of stairs, he leads us into a completely cream colored room with a white bed at the side but isn't  against the wall, rather vertical from it and several pipes and tubes going around. In the corner, I notice a container which looks like one of the test tube containers which are all glass with a metal base and top which also holds it in place. 

Next to the room, which seems to connect to it, is a separate darker room that has flasks and vials of stuff. I guess that is where he does his testing and all that other stuff scientists do with samples.   

He tells Cloud to place me on the bed and keep me sitting up. After he does that and many shots of pain going around the base of my back, the doctor tells him to take off my sweater and tells me he’s going to feel my back for where it hurts most and he can predict if I do have a fractured or splintered back rib bone or not. 

He feels around my back and when he touches the middle of my back, one of the bigger rib bones that’s when I practically yelp out in pain. He tells me I have a slight fracture in that rib bone, but he can give me an injectable medication in my arm which will focus on healing any fractured or broken bones.

Cloud and I talk it over and we agree to do it but the doctor then tells us if we do it, I would have to stay here for the night so he can make sure it’s working properly and if need be, to inject more in. We agree and not too long after, he gets a needle ready. I see the whole needle is about the size of a ruler, the metal part is 2 inches long and the tube where the fluid stays in, is three inches long. Then he ties the base of my forearm, tells me to keep it straight then slowly injects the needle up the vein and inserts all of the fluid. 

When he’s done, I lay there for a bit and Cloud sits beside me, holding my right hand. My left hand now has an IV in it to keep me hydrated. I look over at Cloud and see him looking at me already.

“What?” I ask.

“Nothing.” He says. “Just thinking.”

“Cloud.”

“I’m just…”

“Worried?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah.” He says, looking down.

“I think I’ll be alright.” I say. “As long as I have my protectors here by my side.” 

“Protectors?” he ask, now raising an eyebrow at me.

“You and Caelum.” I say.

“Right.” He says and looks down at Caelum who is up on the bed with me, at me feet.

I see him raise his head and barks at us which causes us to laugh a bit. It’s then quiet for a few minutes and I close my eyes, feeling exhausted from earlier. Believe it or not but it’s already about 4 in the afternoon.

“You gonna be alright here by yourself?” Cloud asks.

“Yeah, I should be.” I say, opening my eyes to him. “Well unless Caelum wants to stay or go, I won’t be completely alone.”

“He could stay if he wants to.” Cloud says, looking over at him. “You wanna stay with her?”

It’s quiet for a second and I see Cloud smile.

“Alright.” He says and turns to me. “He’s gonna stay here with you. Keep you safe.” 

I smile and nod. Then Cloud leans over and gently kisses me on the lips then pulls away.

“If you hungry babe, go get something to eat.” I say. “You haven’t eaten all day.”

“I’ll leave in a bit.” He says.

I don’t argue and just nod then feel myself getting tired so I yawned. 

“Heh. Tired?” Cloud asks.

“Uh huh.” I hum, slightly nodding my head.

“Alright.” He says. “Get some rest.”

I feel him lean in and gently kiss both of my eyelids then kisses my forehead. After about an hour of lying there with Cloud beside me, gently rubbing and tickling the top of my hand, I finally fall asleep. 

In the morning, I wake up to him not there and Caelum still at the base of my bed, by my feet. I stretch then sit up and stretch again. After a few minutes of sitting on the bed, I stand up on wobbly legs, first steadying myself then walk to the washroom which is in between the room I’m in and the lab room, in the hallway. 

In the washroom, I see that he has some photos up on the wall. A few were photos of Nibelheim and one that is one a separate wall by itself, it looked like a collage of different materia and the one that is in the middle caught my attention first. It looks like a clear orb with colors of pink, purple, and blue. It actually looks like a galaxy inside a clear orb. It was actually quite pretty. I look at the bottom of the photo and it says all the different types of materia so I read it carefully. It goes over fire materia, thunder or lightning materia, water materia, and such, I also read some weird ones I have never heard off.

When I got to the end of the names, one of them popped out at me and it seemed to have matched the materia since it went from right to left in naming then different types of materia. I looked at the name and saw it read ‘Protomateria’. I remember reading a document on that… only one of them was ever made by a female scientist… Oh what was her name? I ask myself, remembering that I read a document on this materia and only one was ever made but then there was no record of where it went to or how it was used. 

I look at it for a second then hear the door to my room close. I wash my face off with warm water, dry it then come out and see Cloud leaning against the wall, to the entrance of the little hallway with his arms crossed over his chest and his head down slightly.

“Hey Cloud.” I say and he looks up to me then stands up straight.   

“Hey.” He says and I come out of the hallway and stand in front of him. “How are you feeling?”

“Alright.” I say then I close the distance between us and wrap my arms around his waist and he does the same to me, over my arms then I rest my head in the crook of his neck which I feel it really warm. “Still tired though.” 

He starts rubbing my back gently and I smile, cuddling more into him. I feel him gently kiss the top of my head then I pull away, still with my arms around him and give him a gentle kiss on his lips then hg him again. 

I soon yawn and hear him chuckle then he continues to rub my back. I soon feel myself falling asleep which causes me to moan a bit. 

After a few moments, I feel him let go and pull away then in one swift movement, he picks me up and see he’s carrying me over to the bed. He lays me down then covers me up with the blanket and sits down on the bed facing me a bit. 

“How’s your back?” he asks, rubbing my belly gently with his right hand. 

“It’s better. Seems whatever the doctor gave me worked to heal whatever was wrong with me.” I say

“That’s good.” He says then leans over and gently kisses me on lips. 

After about ten minutes of sitting there, there is a knock at the door then opens and we see that it’s the doctor. 

“Hey folks. How you doing this morning?” he asks coming in and shutting the door. 

“Pretty good.” I say looking over at him. “Seemed to have worked.” 

“That’s good.” He says and I yawn.

“Looks like it’s still in your system though. You should rest some more.” 

“Alright.” I say then turn my head towards Cloud and close my eyes.

“Can you lay with me?” I ask Cloud and then open my eyes and see he is looking down at me with a slight smile on his face. 

He looks up at the doctor then he gets up and lays on top of the covers, laying on his side and I turn as well, laying on my side facing him. He props his head up on his hand and I cuddle into him then he puts his right hand on top of the sheet that is over my body, gently rubbing up and down my side, I smile, closing my eyes and I hear him chuckle a bit.

Not too long after, I pass out in his warmth.
