Our Unexpected Life 4

Chapter XIX

It has only been a few months since putting Destiny in the tube but it feels like it has been more than that. I miss her quite a bit and it gets harder as the time goes by because it feels like I have lost somebody when I haven’t, she’s just asleep. 

The doctor was right though, about her attracting more of those monsters. Caelum and I have both already killed about 10, even though it isn’t a lot it seems that the number is decreasing. Maybe it is finally over and now just waiting for all the monsters to die. 

It makes me think though what will happen to Caelum and if he will die as well, since there isn’t no face on his chest plate we don’t know who he is the copy of. 

I’ve also asked him but he doesn’t answer and says instead that ‘when the time comes, I shall tell you but it is not the time to say’. That’s the only thing he has ever said about it so I didn’t ponder anymore, it was rather annoying to and just didn’t want to deal with it. 

Some nights I stay there in the room with Destiny and some I go to the hotel. I’ve also noticed that her stomach has gotten a lot bigger over the last 2 to 3 months. She seems to be doing alright, she hasn’t moved and no problems have risen so it looks like putting her asleep was a good idea even though both Caelum and I are quite lonely. 

She always made life a little easier to live with her in it, she seems to make my world go round. She has helped me to move on from the past after all, after the death of Aerith who was my best friend and Zack’s girlfriend. I still feel terrible but I’m glad he has found someone else and has moved on, as well as myself. 

I talk to the others every now and then, mostly them calling me to see how it is going. Tifa asked me why I wasn’t coming home and let her rest but I told her I wanted to be here for Destiny if anything went wrong, as well as I told her that I need to protect her from the beasts. She seemed upset but understood then put in that the kids miss me as well as Destiny. 

It was nice. I also informed Anna and Zack about what has been going on and Anna gave me a little bit of shit of just leaving like that but soon cooled down. I laughed after cause she was so fired up, I bet she was saying to herself ‘oh when I see that Cloud next, I’ll be giving him a piece of my mind’, or so what Destiny would say. 

Today is just another one of those days of sitting and waiting. Nothing much to do so I decided to go up to the Reactor to see what’s left of it. 

It looks exactly how it use to look except more…old and dull. I went inside and I saw that old test tubes where they use to do experiments and make monsters. Then I went to the very back and found where Jenova was or use to be, the same day when Zack and I became subjects and Sephiroth went insane. So the turn of events all happened here. 

On the grated floors, I can still see blood from myself from the room next door and on the stairs that I fell down. On the floor at the bottom of the grated stairs where I found Tifa curled up in a ball after Sephiroth attacked her, I see her hat against the wall. I go over and pick it up.

It still looks like how it was back then except for maybe a bit of dust and debris but that is about it, it hasn’t faded or ripped. I decide I’ll take it and dispose of it properly since she probably won’t want it back, but maybe I’ll call just in case. 

I go into the others rooms but find them completely demolished. I step out onto the grated floor and then feel a very sharp pain go across my back, feeling likes something whipped me. I turn around and don’t see anything but then feel the wound sting more to the point where it makes me collapse on my knee. 

After that, I then start to hear a low laugh and look around while my vision is going blurry. In the corner of the room, I notice a strange being in the corner but not that of a monster or beast, no someone that looks like he is wearing a strait jacket that is black and the rest of his outfit matches and the whole outfit has light blue lines going down the front from the shoulders to the feet and might be around the back of him as well. 

I try to focus my vision and notice he has things that look like mechanical wings on both sides of him and what looks like knives or blades hanging off of the tips of each mechanical feather of the wings. I also notice he has some sort of metal mask on, covering his mouth and forehead but you can see his nose and eyes. I also noticed he has two pistols on either side of his hips.

I start to feel my body going numb and soon collapse onto the grated floor, on my stomach. My eyes start to shut and see him approach my now collapsed body, when he is in front of my face he lowers himself and that’s when I see his cold red eyes. That’s when I pass out. 

I see those eyes and I wake with a start, sitting straight up in the bed of the hotel I am staying at. I noticed I wasn’t covered with the blanket but those eyes never leave my mind. I swing my legs over the bed, facing the window and put my head down. The window is on the right side of the bed when you’re laying on it, and it looks over the town of Nibelheim. 

I think for a second, wondering if it was a dream or not then I remember my back. I reach my hand back but don’t feel no mark or cut where I thought it hit me. Maybe it was a dream…No, I couldn’t have been. It was way too real. I think to myself. Guess I might ask the doctor if I said anything to him about going up to the Reactor. 

After about 10 minutes of trying to get my nerves called and my face washed, I head back over to the hospital where Destiny is being held and sleeping.
