Chapter XVII

Cloud’s POV

I laid there with Destiny watching her sleep with a slight smile on her face which also makes me smile. I gently rub her side and she cuddles more into my chest, then I lean over and gently kiss the top of her head. I look up at the doctor and see him standing there at the little desk in the corner by the door, reading a document and watching us. 

“So. What’s gonna happen now?” I ask him and he looks up at me.

“Well, I was going through the results, finding some odd behavior with both of your cells, and I concluded that it might be best if she slept during the rest of the pregnancy.” He says.

“Like in the tube over there to sleep in?”

“Yes.” He says. “Of course she will be under the influence of more mako but I believe it won’t affect her.”

“Won’t affect her?” I ask looking sharply at him. “You mean to say that it won’t do anything?”

“Well, it will but her body is already under the influence of so much mako already from the baby that the mako within the tube won’t do any further damage.” He says then pauses. “But I know for a fact that when we do, the amount that she already releases combined with that in the tube, can result in some of those odd creatures to show up again.” 

“You mean she’s gonna end up attracting them?” 

“Precisely.” He says. “So you and Caelum with have to be on your toes for the next 6 months of her pregnancy to protect her from being interrupted.”

I look at her then at Caelum who I see is also looking at me. I nod and he nods back. I look back down at her and watch her for a few I just hope you make it through this. I wouldn’t be able to deal with it if you didn’t. I think to myself. 

“So are you going to give her a sedative to make her sleep for the rest of the pregnancy or what’s going to happen?” I ask.

“I’ll be giving her a sedative to make her sleep but I will have to inject a heavy amount in the spine so not only will it take effect immediately but it will also keep her asleep longer.” He says.

“Ok.” I say. “So when are we gonna start this?”

“As soon as possible.” He states. “If you want, I can do it tomorrow so it can have a less chance of causing another one of her attacks.”

“Do you know what those attacks are from? Like what is causing it to happen?”

He’s quite for a few minutes thinking. I feel my eyes narrow then he looks up at me.

“No idea.” He says, looking away. “I’m still looking for anything that could be causing those attacks and why they are so severe.” 

I feel my eye twitch and narrow knowing that he knows something and either isn’t sure about it or just doesn’t want to tell me. I was about to say something but then hear Destiny groan beside me, causing me to turn my attention to her. She looks to be in a bit of pain and it clutching her chest a bit, I grab her hand and gently rub it then rub the area where she was clutching and she relaxes after a few moments, returning back to her relaxed peaceful sleep. 

I sit there for about an hour before I decide to go get her and myself something to eat so she can have something before we decide to put her asleep for the rest of the pregnancy. 

I go out and grab breakfast, well she and Anna would call it brunch. I get a tray of fruits to go as well as a few pancakes from a nearby restaurant that is at the centre of Nibelheim. When I get back, I see that she is still asleep so I put the food on the desk and grab my phone. Should call Tifa and Zack to warn them where we are. I first dial Zack’s and Anna’s house number, after about a few rings it picks up.

“Hello?” Zack asks.

“Hey.” I say.

“Aw hey man, how’s it going?” he asks happily. 

“Alright.”

“Where did you and Destiny disappear to?” he ask.

“Yeah sorry about that, we left cause she started having really bad attacks so we’re in Nibelhiem now with the doctor that did the implants for her and Anna.” I say. 

“Oh man.” He says, not sure what to say. “Attacks from what?”

“Well, I think something else is going on with her but the doctor says it’s the Jenvoa cells and mako that are causing a lot of pressure on her, causing her to have attacks where she literally passes out.” I say. “She had two within 10 minutes the night we left.” 

“Damn. That’s bad.” He says. “So what are you going to do now?”

“Well the doctor said that it would probably be best if she slept for the rest of the pregnancy.”

“And you’re ok with that?” he says. 

“Well I don’t see any other choice in the matter. I think it’s the only thing we can do for her so she doesn’t suffer any longer as well as the baby.” 

“Guess that’s true.” He says. “Well, all I can say man is bring her home safely. You aren’t the only one who needs her.” 

“Yeah. I will.” I say. 

Then we say our byes and I call Seventh Heaven. Marlene picks up and I talk to her for a bit then ask if Tifa was there. When Tifa came on, she was surprised I was calling and I just explained that we were out of town for a while so Denzel won’t be able to come around for a while then told her that Destiny was pregnant and she was surprised and happy for us but I told her there were problems and she hoped us the best of luck. I told her I would call them if we were on our way back and she was ok with that. Then we also said our byes and hung up. 

When I go into the room, I see Destiny already sitting up on the bed with her hands in her lap and looking at them with a sad look on her face. I walk over to her and notice she didn’t even look up at me when I walked in. I sit on the bed, looking at her then put my hand over hers which startles her because she jumped causing me to quickly pull away. 

“Whoa.” She says, looking at me then closes her eyes and clutches her chest with that hand.

“Are you alright?” I ask and she nods with a bit of a pained expression on her face, I placed my hand on the bed.

After a moment she opens her eyes and her features relaxes. She drops her hand then turns to me quickly.

“Don’t do that.” She says and slaps my hand playfully, which I pulled away after she hit it.

“What was that for?”

“For scaring the hell out of me.” She says. “You could have given me a heart attack.” 

“I’m pretty sure you can’t get heart attacks at this age.”

“Oh ok smart ass.” She says jokingly now with a smile. “I still could have had one of my attacks.” 

She says and I see her face drop which causes my face to as well.

“You alright?” I ask again and I see her shake her head, as if getting something out. 

“Yeah.” She says. “Had a bad dream.” 

“You wanna talk about it?” I ask and she shakes her head.

“No, I’m alright.” She says.

“Well alright.” I say. “Hey I got something for you.”

“What?” she asks confused. 

Then I get up, smiling and grab the trays. I place it on the bed in front of her and open it, seeing her face light up.

“You didn’t have to.” She says.

“I know, just thought we should eat something together since you didn’t eat yesterday either.” I say.

She nods and we both begin to eat. I feed her a few forks of pancakes and she feeds me a few forks of fruit. One of the fruit squirted which caused me to make a funny face and squirt out of my mouth which she laughed at then I fed her the same fruit and it also squirted out of her mouth which she covered in response. I just chuckled at her and she smirked.
