Chapter twelve: Welcome to Crenshaw

The next day Spencer was home helping his mom get ready for a BBQ when someone knocked on the door "Who's that?" Spencer asked, his mom shrugged as she went and opened the door, in front of her stood a couple, the woman with a big smile on her face "Carmen?" Grace said as she hugged her "Hi!" the woman said "Leo!" Grace said as she hugged the man "When did you two get back?" she asked "Last night. We wanted to surprise you." Carmen said "Is that Spencer?" Leo asked as Grace let them into the house "Hey Leo." Spencer said as they gave each other a bro hug "Hi Carmen." he said as he hugged her "You grew up handsome." she said "You guys have to stay. I'm having my annual neighbourhood BBQ." Grace said, Carmen and Leo looked at each other, then smiled "Okay." Carmen said "But you have to let me help." she said "You can take my spot. I have to head back to Beverly." Spencer said "Beverly?" Leo asked "Go on. And tell your friends they're more than welcome to come." Grace said to Spencer "I'll explain it to you guys." she said to Leo and Carmen. "See you guys later." Spencer said as he headed out the door.

When Spencer walked into the Baker house he saw Olivia, Leila and Sophie playing a card game while Asher and Jordan played on the Xbox. "Hey." Olivia said "Sup." Spencer said "What are you doing here?" Leila asked "Had to drop some stuff off, then I'm heading back because my mom is having one of her neighbourhood BBQ and she said that y'all are welcome to come." Spencer said "Sure we'll come it sounds like fun." Jordan said "Oh um I have something I need to do I can't come, sorry." Sophie said "No worries. You can come next time." Spencer said, "Yeah." she said nodding her head and smiling, Jordan looked at her, she saw him looking and quickly got up "I better get going." she said, Jordan paused the game and got up "Soph wait up." he said as she followed her, he grabbed her arm "Do you really have something or do you just not want to come because you can't think of a excuse not to eat?" he asked, she looked at him "Jordan..." she said "You promised to explain to me why you feel like not eating so I can help." he said "Well isn't it obvious?" she said "What Brooke said." she said "Brooke is just a mean girl. And besides the BBQ is in Crenshaw and she wouldn't be caught dead there." he said, she looked down at her feet "Look I promise it'll be fun." he said, she looked at him "Please?" he asked, she looked into those brown eyes and her heart skipped a beat, she was in love and she now knew it "Okay." she said with a smile, he smiled back at her "Great." he said, just then Spencer and the others came over "We better get going." he said to Jordan "Okay. Sophie is gonna come." he said, Spencer looked at her and smiled "Cool let's go." he said. Jordan, Sophie and Asher got into Jordan's car while Olivia, Leila and Spencer got into Olivia's car.

Soon they pulled up to Spencer's lively house, they followed him through the house to the backyard were everyone was. Spencer walked over to his mom who was talking to Carmen and Leo "Hey." he said as he hugged her "Hey baby." she said "Mom you remember Asher, Leila and Sophie." Spencer said "Yes. Hi." Grace said "This is Carmen and Leo Alba." Grace said "Hi." Leila Olivia said "Nice to meet you." Jordan said "Hi." Asher said "Hey." Sophie said "Please you guys, enjoy the food." Grace said "Thanks." Olivia said as they all headed to buffet set up, Jordan looked at Sophie "You okay?" he asked "Yeah." she said he looked at her and gave a really? look "Okay no." she said "I don't want to waist the food, I mean Spencer's mom put a lot of work into the food and I don't want to get food and not finish it." she said, Jordan took her hand, she looked at her hand in his then up at him "I'll help you." he said with a smile "That's why I'm here." he said "Come on." he said as he pulled her towards the buffet table.
