I fell back asleep. Boy, was it needed. I checked the time on my alarm clock after I stretched my arms as tall and wide as I could. The clock read 2:38 pm. Damn, I must have been sick. I didn't feel as nauseous. I thought it meant I was healed.

I didn't hear any movement coming from my living room. Kelly was always up by 12 pm. It was just how her internal clock had functioned. She was a loud walker, too. I always knew when she was up, even when she didn't come and check up on me when she awoke. When I did wake, I could hear her feet bang on the floor. It wasn't her fault. Again, it was just how she worked.

I checked her room, again. Nothing had changed. It was still shut and unopened. Where could she be?

I checked all around the apartment. She was nowhere to be found. I even went back to my room and checked my phone. Only one notification.

Text Message from Vinny

Not the person I had wanted to see plastered on the beautiful cloud wallpaper on my phone.

Vinny was my long time boyfriend. We had been together since we were 15. Now being 21, we were practically married. 6 years with someone makes it feel that way. I was honestly waiting for him to pop the question. We were completely in love. He was my best friend. Well, second to Kelly. She could never be replaced.

I unlocked my phone to see the text. I was thinking he might have Kelly. He always looked after her like he would me. It was great to see that he was so loving to everyone I knew. It was also a relief. Whenever I was having a bad day, he would come over to Kelly and I's apartment and take care of both of us.

Kelly was always working. She deserved a break every once and a while. So, when I'm not able to give her that break, Vinny is always there to take over. And it makes me love him more.

Just checking to make sure you got home ok :) - Vinny

Nothing. He knows nothing. She has to be somewhere.

She was the responsible one out of us two. Always knew where to go and what to do. The funny thing is she is younger than me. I had more time on this earth, yet she could figure it out faster. I always wondered why that was. Was it because of her traits? How she was raised, maybe? Or was it my clear reckless behavior? I would never find out if I couldn't find her.

I'm home! Have you heard from Kelly? - Lexi

I decided to check the kitchen once more. When I would wake up, I always found her in the kitchen. She lived there.

Kelly was a cook for a high-class restaurant. All our lives she was making food out of nothing. It was her magic skill. She could make her own grilled cheese by 5. I don't know why her parents let her use a stove, but she would have done it anyway. Kelly would do anything for the things she loved and the ones she loved. She just loved loving.

Nothing was disturbed. I vaguely remember the night before how everything was placed. Some crums from bread was placed delicately on the countertop. The small cutting board Kelly and I owned sat right next to sink. It had a broken plate in it. I do not remember it being there. The dishwasher was also turned on. The green light had shown that the dishes in there were clean. I did not remember turning the dishwasher on before I fell asleep.

I was lost in my thought when a vicious knock on the door sounded. I was startled a little. I felt my heart pound as I thought about who could be at the door. Could it be someone wanting to hurt me? My parents? Vinny? Or, best-case scenario, Kelly coming home saying she lost her key.

Our door did not have a peephole. Making the situation even more terrifying. I grabbed the bat next to our door. We kept it there since we didn't have a peephole. It was for safety purposes only. It had never had any use except for protecting ourselves in case of a home invasion. The poor bat would never get to live out its natural duties for hitting baseballs across the field.

I opened the door slowly and saw two police officers standing outside of my door. I lower the bat behind my back, "Oh, hello, officers. Um, is anything wrong?" They take a quick glance at each other like I'm crazy. I don't blame them honestly.

"We've come regarding your roommate, Kelly Poule." I nod, shock coming into my eyes, "We are sorry to tell you, but she has been murdered."

And with that, the bat dropped.
