"Welcome back, Lexi." Callum gave me a sly smile. How I got here was not a happy thing. It was hard to smile. I gave a little smile back.
"Thank you." He clearly wanted to ask me something personal. Or he had some terrible news for me. Either scared me. He tapped his foot aggressively. Even I knew what that meant.
"So, how did the pregnancy test turn out?" And there was the question.
"I'm pregnant."
"With Vinny's child?" My eyebrows furrowed. Did he think I cheated on Vinny?
"Yeah, who else? I haven't cheated." I let out a slight giggle. Callum seemed to not return it. There was something else going on still.
"I didn't mean it like that. I mean, I guess I did. Why don't we begin?" I nodded slowly. That seemed like a good idea right now. "I want to talk about the last time you saw Kelly. Just the day in general. So, just start in the morning and go all the way to the last time you saw her."
"That morning she made me breakfast. It was french toast and bacon. One of my favorite meals she cooked. We ate together and watched The Office. It was something we did every time we could eat breakfast together. I just remember laughing with her the whole way through the two episodes we watched. Then, I had to head to work at the boutique. My shift was shorter since I had been covering for one of my co-workers. I worked and I came straight home. Kelly didn't have to work that night so we planned on going to our friend's party. We both got ready. We left and went straight to our friend's house. We both branched off alone to talk to different people. So, I'm not too sure about what happened at the party. But, when I got really tired, I wanted to find her to tell her I was headed home. We took my car and I had one shot that night. I didn't feel tipsy at all. I finally found her and she told me that one of her friends could take her home. I didn't ask who. I figured she would pick someone she knew well. Someone who wouldn't harm her." I looked down at my hands. "If I had only waited and took her home, she might be alive."
"Don't blame yourself. You couldn't have known that the night would end like that."
"Anyway, after I found her and told her I was headed home, I went home. And that's the last time I saw her." I twirled my thumbs around each other. All I could do was wish this would end.
"Um, okay, this is a hard question." Again, my eyebrows furrowed. I thought he had already asked the hard question.
"Ask away." My foot started shaking. I was insanely nervous. My body didn't know how to react.
"Did you know Vinny cheated on you with Kelly?"
My heart dropped to the floor. There was no way. Both my best friends having an affair with each other.
"Um, you're lying, right? There is no way either of them would do that to me." And right as I said that a police officer came into the room.
"Detective, he confessed."
"Who confessed?" I asked immediately. It couldn't have been Vinny he would never kill Kelly. He loved her. Maybe more than I thought.
"Vincent Holli. Who else?"
Dun, dun, DUNNNNNN! Plot twist. Did any of you guys guess it? If so tweet me at alexarayk10. Or you could tell me who else you thought it could be. Can't wait to see your reactions! -alexarayk10
