"We, as humans, can believe in Spirits and God to help get us through the day, but I know.. When it comes time to cross that road.. I know I'll look both ways."

                               Sameen

"Shhh.. It'll be okay. All you have to do is keep your pretty little mouth shut."

My eyes gaze fixated on the man before me. His large hand covered not only my mouth, but my nose as well. It was the middle of the night. Isn't a group home suppose to be safe from monsters?

His other hand moving quickly to loosen the belt of his pants. His light skin glistened from the moonlight that managed to sneak its way through the cracks of the blinds. The windows were rusty, though, it wasn't surprising considering how old the building seemed to be. Even the bunk bed had rusty rails that needed more than a bit of oil to shine. Exactly 153 girls in this room tonight and not only was I stuck with the bottom bunk, but the probability that each and every child here were sleeping is close to none.

Someone had to have heard him sneak in, maybe even the ones who allowed this male inside. His green eyes weren't warm at all. His was suppose to guard us. The navy blue color of his uniform caught me by surprise in the beginning. Now, I understand.

Nodding my head in compliance, I wait until he has shimmied his way out of his pants. Once I hear the low thud, I kick him in the private area. He releases both his hands from me and gives himself his full attention. Quickly, I scramble to my feet. As soon as they hit the ground, I do what I do best..

Run.

"You may now kiss the bride." The short, thin Asian Paster at the alter instructed lightly, pulling me away from my trance. Suddenly, my mind has made the situation before me quite clear. My eyes train on him.

Quickly, my eyes plant themselves on the woman. On her finger, he had placed a ring just moments before. I saw them. The way he smiled at her before grabbing the sides of her face before his lips were smashed into her thin ones. She was quite average. That's what I hated the most about her: her ordinariness. It was not because she was a petite blonde model from Lublin. Although, it did go to prove the ignorant saying that 'once you go black, you never go back' saying was malarkey.

No, she was average. Not to say because she was a Caucasian blonde woman she was plain, because the woman who figured herself to be sneaking up behind me was drop dead gorgeous. I would tell her so, indiscreetly. No, see, the woman now next to me would be the dreams of many men and even women. Even she out-beautified the woman at the alter.

"I once found it idiotic." I state blandly, taking a slight pause as I feel her presence beside me.

"... How one is 66 percent likely to be murdered by someone you love." My eyes find their way to her direction before I turn my body towards her fully. Her body is still faced towards the smiling couple as the photographer takes their picture I presume. I watch as she takes a deep breath. "Now, I understand."
