"When you have someone who connects you to the world. You'd want to be different.... When that person is taken away from you... What do you become then?"

I push my feet off of the ground slightly so I can swing a little. Every kid loved the swing, but this was mine, and no one dared sit in it.. Well, as long as I was around at least. I had a book in my hand: The Identity Theif. Although my eyes were on the pages, the words couldn't process throughout my mind.

"Hello." I mumble, noticing someone taking a seat next to me. I could feel the pebbles underneath my feet-even through my all black high top converse. I had on one of my father's all black shirts that looked to swallow me whole, along with black spandex shorts. I tucked a piece of his shirt in the front to my left. My mangled hair was combed through earlier, but knowing if I set it free it wouldn't stay like that so I put it in a low puffy ponytail with a few pieces of stray hair sticking out... All except that pesky patch of gray embedded on the left side of my head.

"Hello." I notice a boy's voice speak out to me. I turn my head to see a white boy with dyed hair. The roots were blond, meanwhile the tips seemed to lead to a dark purple color. He had a feminine face to me... Like a girl kind of. What stood out besides his choice of hair color were the drawn markings on his face.

"Odd hair." I point out. He smiles and shrugs.

"It's a weird side effect I guess.. You're one to talk."  He chuckled, noticing the birthmark. My eyes pierce through his face and body. He's odd. Instead of saying anything else, I remain silent.

"Why are you here alone?"  He asks before glancing down at the book in my lap. I slowly look up at the sky to see the sun setting.

"When you have someone who connects you to the world. You'd want to be different, right?"  I take a slight pause without taking my eyes away from the sight.

"Yeah, I guess so."

"Yes, you'd want to be a better person.. If that person is taken away from you... What do you become then?"

"You mean, who do you become then?" I glance over at him before shaking my head.

"No. What do you become." I close my book before standing up and face my body towards him. "Well, I have to go."

"Can I walk with you?" He stands up and sends me a small smile. I shrug.

"Well okay." I turn around to lead the way.

"What's your name?"

"Sameen.."  I look over and nod politely as we walk side by side. "What's yours?"

"Azrail."

My eyes trail towards the happy family. I walk up the steps and bend forward to place the groceries on their porch. The perfect family of four was drowning in debt. It's taking longer than expected for the father to get a stable job and the mother was a quant waitress at Waffle House barely pulling enough money for them to eat. I place $1500 from last night inside one of the bags before ringing the doorbell.

Quickly making my way back to the car before anyone could come to the door, I hop inside to see the father answer. I watch him look down in confusion as he noticed the bags. His head snaps up to look around for someone. I start my car and drive off.

I grab multiple blankets and head underneath the bridge. I pass by the small tents and brown boxes. I ignore the stench and continue to walk with a level head.

"Hey Ms.Reese!" I hear the older blind woman call out to me. Her ability to know it's me by my footsteps is astounding. I look in her direction and nod.

"Sleeping here tonight?" She quizzes. I lay out my blankets on the concrete.

"I'm tired, Lauren." I mumble, placing my body down.

"I heard about the money people in that shelter got. They said a woman came in when they were sleeping and put money in their pockets." She explains. I lift up a bit so I could put one of the blankets on top of me. I take my gun that was tucked on my right side and held it in my hand instead. Perks of being both handed.

"What a miracle, but I'm tired Lauren." I grumble.

"We even got some food made for us by some nice people... People who normally won't come this way. It was nice. We have lots left." She continues and I groan. Waiting for this conversation to end, I close my eyes shut.

"Thank you Ms.Reese.. You're an Angel." I open my eyes and stare at the woman.

"There are Angels out there... I may seem to be on their side, but don't think for a second I actually am one." My eyes train on her for a moment until I sigh at the silence.

"Goodnight, Ms.Lauren." I watch a wide smile spread across her face before she walks away.
