JULY 1967

DAWN'S POV

Jimmy and I were sitting in the living room, listening to this new record he bought. It's called SGT Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, by The Beatles. It was actually pretty good. I was quite enjoying just sitting there, with my man, listening to this record. Just then, I felt a terrible pain in my stomach. It felt like I pissed myself. "Jimmy, I think the baby is coming." I sat up.

"Oh my God, oh my God. Okay, we practiced what to do. I don't know what to do." He was panicking.

"Jimmy, calm down, it'll be okay."

"Okay babe, just calm down."

"I think you're the one that needs to calm down." I grabbed my side and groaned. "Come on, this shit hurts." We got into the car and off we went to the hospital.

I was lying there in the hospital bed, with my new baby girl in my arms and my husband standing next to me. "So, baby, what should we name this little girl?" Jimmy asked me.

"I like the name Kashmir." I looked down at the sleeping child in my arms. This is my kid. Holy fuck.

"Me too. Kashmir Lynne?" I nodded.

"Perfect."

"Man, I can't believe I'm a Dad." Jimmy said, looking down at little Kashmir. "Can I hold her?"

"Of course, she's your kid too." I gently passed Kashmir to Jimmy. He started to tear up when he was holding her. I smiled widely. My two new favourite people.

"I love her already." Jimmy said.

"Me too. I actually miss her. She's right there and I miss her." I laughed and just watched Jimmy look at her in amazement.

"I can't believe we actually made this." I laughed again.

"I'm so tired. When can I go home?" I asked a nurse as she walked in the room.

"If there is nothing wrong with the baby, today." I nodded. "Have you guys decided on a name yet?"

"We did, Kashmir Lynne Caan." Jimmy said. She smiled awkwardly.

"That's cute." I think she was lying.

"What? You don't like my kid's name? Well, guess what? She's not your fucking kid." I said.

"I like it. Let me go get the birth certificate forms for you to fill out so we can get it printed up before you get discharged."

Kashmir Lynne Caan, born July 18th, 1967, at 4:20am. Blonde hair, blue eyes. 6lbs, 11oz.

Jimmy and I just got home. I walked in the door and a bunch of people yelled surprise. I jumped and almost shit my pants. It was a nice party and all but I wish my father was here to meet Kashmir. After everyone left, I put the bassinet in our room because I didn't want to be far away from her. Kashmir was long asleep, so now it was our turn. I laid in the bed and closed my eyes. That was it, I was out. The next morning I had woken up and neither Jimmy nor Kashmir were there. I started to panic but then realized that they're probably together. I walked out of the bedroom and down the stairs to my kitchen. Jimmy was sitting there, with Kashmir in her car seat, the car seat sat on the table. I smiled widely as I walked in there. I walked behind Jimmy and looked at Kashmir. "I think she's hungry." Jimmy said, pulling me to sit on his lap. I shook my head.

"If she was hungry, we'd know. She'd be crying." I looked at her, smiling. "How long have you been awake?" I asked.

"Only like twenty minutes. I got up and she was awake so I thought I'd let you sleep."

"You could have woken me up too baby, this is a joint thing. I don't expect you to do everything."

"I know but you just pushed her out of your vagina so I thought you could use the extra sleep." I laughed and shook my head.

"Well, thank you." I kissed his cheek. "So, now what do we do? Should we go somewhere?"

"Yeah, actually, I had a place in mind." I nodded.

"Okay, where?"

"It's a surprise. Go get ready and we'll stop for food on the way." I nodded and went up the stairs. I put a pair of sweat pants on and a t shirt. I walked downstairs and Jimmy had the car packed and ready to go. "Come on, slow poke." he joked. I put my tennis shoes on and we left the house. I got into the passenger's seat and turned around to see Kashmir in her car seat, all buckled in. Jimmy got in and started driving. I had no idea where we were going. About twenty minutes later, we pulled into the cemetery where my father is buried. I looked at Jimmy. "I thought that because he couldn't be there to meet Kashmir, we could bring her to him."

"So, you brought me here to sacrifice my own kid so she can meet my dad?" I asked, confused.

"No, no. My God, no. I figured we would just go to his grave site and we can tell him about her."

"Oh okay, that makes a lot more sense." Jimmy just shook his head.

"Come on, let's go find his plot." he got out  of the car and I followed, taking Kashmir out of her car seat. I carried the small child in my arms as we trudged through the cemetery to find my father. Once we reached his grave, I knelt down with Kashmir in my arms.

"Hi Dad." I was already starting to cry. "I miss you a lot." I cleared my throat. "Um, a lot has happened since you've been gone. I had a baby. Her name is Kashmir..." I trailed off and sniffled. "You'd love her dad. She looks just like Jimmy and I." I was full on crying now. "I really wish you could have been there yesterday when I birthed her." I handed Kashmir to Jimmy. "Um, Uncle Sonny is the Don now, I couldn't handle it. I miss you and I love you Dad." I had to stop because I was starting to cry to hard, I couldn't breath. Jimmy pulled me away gently and hugged me with one arm. I sobbed softly as we walked to the car.

"I'm sorry Dawn, I thought it would be a good idea." he sighed.

"No, no. I'm glad we brought her here. Thank you." I kissed his cheek before he put Kashmir in her car seat. The car ride home was silent, Kashmir fell asleep in the back seat.
