What just happened?

One minute everything was fine. And then everything wasn't fine.

And now it's fine again.

The ferris wheel continues on it's path, just as it was before. The shaking and mysterious screeching noise have both stopped. It's as if it hadn't happened.

It's as if my death didn't happen. Because that's what happened.

Neither Kirishima or I rose to our feet until the end of the ride. Kirishima was holding his wrist in the same way I had, but ignores it. We were both too shocked and terrified to move. As if one step could send us falling to our death.

The box we were in finally reaches the bottom, and the man opens the door. "Are you kids alright? Something happened up there, and I couldn't figure it out! But then it just stopped..." he trails off, making sure we're safe. We stand to our feet and exit the box. "Uh, we're okay." Kirishima says emotionlessly. The man tilts his head. "Oh. Well, I'll have to close the ferris wheel now. I got to get it checked, too." he says, scratching his head. We walk away.

The walk back to the dorm building is completely silent. The only noises were from passing cars, the wind, and our shoes hitting the concrete ground.

I stop in place. "T-This isn't right..." I mutter. Kirishima turns around and faces me. "I shouldn't be here, I should be... I should be dead..." He walks over to me and grabs my hand. He glances at the date. "Why am I still alive, Kirishima?" I ask, tears forming in my eyes.

This wasn't supposed to happen. My destiny was to die, and Kirishima's was to keep living. I should be in the hospital, as the nurses and doctors try to save my life, but fail. You're not supposed to be able to change your destiny. People can't do that. Nobody can do that.

Kirishima shakes his head. "I... I don't know, Katsuki." he says quietly. "I really don't know." We stand in silence as I sob quietly. I hear footsteps approach from behind, but I pay no attention to them. Kirishima notices them. "Oh, hey guys." he greets tiredly. "Yo! What's up?" I hear the voice of Soy Sauce say. I don't bother turning around. Now that I realize it, we're pretty close to UA now. They must've been out, too.

"What's wrong with you guys? You look like you saw a kid get hit by a truck." I hear Raccoon Eyes say. I flinch at the image in my mind. Kirishima notices and squeezes my hand tighter. "So how was your date?" she asks, entering my view. Dunce Face and Soy Sauce follow her. They all notice my depressed face. "... Did you guys actually see a kid get hit by a truck?" Dunce Face asks. Soy Sauce smacks him on the back of the head. "Seriously, what's up, Bakugou?" Raccoon Eyes asks. I walk away from the group. "None of your business." I growl. Kirishima follows after me. "H-Katsuki, wait!" he pleads. But I just keep walking away.

As we get farther from the group, Kirishima tries to talk to me. "I know you're upset by this, but-" I cut him off. "But WHAT, Kirishima?! Am I supposed to act like I wasn't just supposed to DIE back there?! You want me to forget that?? How am I supposed to do that?!" I yell. Kirishima flinches and backs up a bit as my voice raises. He looks down at the ground without a word. I click my tongue and walk away.

Once I get back to my room, I lay down on the bed and wrap myself up in blankets. This is bad. Very bad. I cough a bit. The cough feels like knives going up my throat. I notice a small amount of blood on my hand from when I covered it. That's bad too. I sit up and grab my laptop, opening the search engine. I've been doing this quite often lately. I type a sentence into the search engine.

'What if I live past my expiration date?'

The results are nothing but theories and assumptions from people on the internet. I continue scrolling through the feed, but find nothing. Nobody has ever experienced this. I'm the very first person for this to happen to. I sigh, closing my laptop in defeat. I'm kind of hungry. I didn't have dinner before we left because I didn't have time. I get up from the bed and make my way downstairs to the kitchen we all have to share.
