"Hyung stop!" Jeongin screamed in between fits of laughter as Felix started dancing some dance he saw online which caused Jeongin to laugh and Seungmin to toss a pillow at him, an annoyed expression on his face.
"Fucking fornite loving dipshit," Seungmin grumbled, catching the pillow that Felix threw back at him. "Jisung stop him!"
Jisung raised his finger and pointed at Felix but before he could even say anything, Felix rushed to the sofa and tossed a pillow at him, leaving him confused. Woojin sat by the window, unbothered and unfazed by the scene unfolding before him having been used to the fact that at times, they truly acted like little kids playing with each other.
An overwhelming feeling of warmth enveloped Jeongin as he watched the other three toss pillows at each other, the tension from before long gone and instead replaced with an atmosphere that brought joy to his heart, the smile never once leaving his face although the older boys were cussing at each other ( jokingly of course ). It was a familiar scene and in that familiarity, Jeongin found solace.
As Jeongin laughed, the others couldn't help but smile as well. To them, Jeongins' happiness was worth so much more than every diamond, every branded item and every single thing that money can buy because Jeongins' happiness was priceless.
But his laughter was cut short when they heard a soft knock on the door which caused them all to direct their attention to the person who had slowly slid the door open.
Standing by the doorway was a boy who wore dark shades, a black cap and a black mask and although his face was almost completely hidden, Jeongin knew exactly who it was - after all, he was still a fanboy despite everything he's been through.
Hwang Hyunjin stood by the doorway, a bouquet of flowers in one hand and a fox plushie in the other. He cleared his throat awkwardly as he knocked again.
"Did I interrupt something? I can come back la-"
"Don't worry about it Hyunjin. We were just about to go out and grab lunch for Innie," Woojin said, standing up from his place and patting Jisung on the back, signalling to them that they should leave.
Of course, the other three got the hint and started walking out but before they could all leave, Felix turned around dramatically and shot a wink at Jeongin. "Have fun with your alone time with Hyunjin!"
Seungmin passed a pillow to Jeongin who immediately fired it at Felix, hitting him right smack middle of his face. Jeongin was about to whisper thank you to Seungmin but instead he wanted to strangle the slightly older boy after hearing what he said. "Use protection."
Once they all left the room, Hyunjin still stood by the door awkwardly waiting for a conversation starter to come to mind.
"I'm sorry hyung." Hyunjin looked at the younger boy, eyes as wide as saucers - why was he the one apologising? He opened his mouth to ask what he had to be sorry for but closed it again when Jeongin raised his hand, a sign telling him to wait before he spoke. "I'm sorry you went through all that trouble for me. I'm just a fanboy and yet I made my idol run around in circles for me and I don't think that's very fair so I'm so-"
"No." Jeongin, who had been averting Hyunjins' eyes, finally looked up and noticed that Hyunjin was much closer than he originally thought him to be, now right next to his bed. Hyunjin placed the bouquet of flowers and the fox plushie on the end table, grabbed a chair and sat right next to Jeongin. "Stop apologising for things that aren't even your fault."
He pointed at the bruises that had formed on Jeongins' skin, blue black markings staining his otherwise fair skin - marks that, Hyunjin felt, he had caused.
"These...These aren't your fault. And this-" He pointed at a scar that Jeongin didn't even realised he had on his leg. "-isn't your fault either. So don't you dare apologise okay?"
"But hyung-"
"No buts!" Hyunjin said, covering Jeongins' mouth with his palm. "No apologising okay?" Jeongin nodded hesitantly but felt a blush creep onto his face because of the simple skinship.
Hyunjin put down his mask and gave him a smile, his eyes seemingly smiling as well before handing Jeongin the fox plushie.
"Why a fox?" Jeongin asked and in that instance, Hyunjin so badly wanted to hug the boy - his eyes were big, almost puppy like and his mouth pursed slightly, trying to think about why Hyunjin would give him such a soft toy. Instead of answering him with words, Hyunjin placed the soft toy next to Jeongins' face and, using his phone, he went to selfie mode.
Jeongin looked at the older boy as if he were insane causing the older to laugh, put down his phone and poke Jeongin on the cheek, the very action alone enough to send the butterflies in Jeongins' stomach on a rampage.
"It looks like you." Hyunjin moved the fox plushie closer to Jeongin and nuzzled it against his neck, something that he wanted to do but couldn't bring himself to do so ( not that he would admit it ). "Hey Innie?"
Jeongin hummed in response, letting the plushie rest on his shoulder.
"Do you want to go on a date with me?"
The plushie fell down right onto his lap.
"I-What?" His words left him, leaving him a stuttering mess before the boy he idolised. "I..." He wanted to say yes, to agree to go out with him and to not waste his chance but a small voice in the back of his head reminded him of everything that had happened. How he had been attacked, hurt and harmed and how it made the people he loved, including Hyunjin, worry about him.
He wanted to be selfish and say yes because their last 'date' had been so rudely interrupted before it even properly began. He wanted to shoot his shot and spend a day with the boy he liked and yet, he couldn't - he wasn't going to make people worry for him again.
So, he shook his head, looking down and squishing the soft toy that sat on his lap. "So-sorry hyung but I can't."
The harsh comments came flying back at him and his head hurt trying to focus on what Woojin had said to him but insecurities and self-doubt don't go away instantly - much like shadows, sometimes they're faint and unnoticeable but other times, they were distinct but nevertheless, they were almost always there.
His nails dug into the soft toy and the second he had begun doing that, he saw a hand on top of his, completely covering and enveloping his smaller hand.
"It's fine if you don't want to but I think that us spending time here together right now could be considered a date. What do you think?"
Hyunjins' hand gently pulled Jeongins' away from the stuff toy and uncurled his fingers. Slowly, he intertwined their fingers and held onto his hand tightly.
Jeongin couldn't speak. Hell, he couldn't move.
"Do you want to go on a weird hospital date with me Innie?" Hyunjin asked, almost putting his head on Jeongins' lap but never letting go of his hand.
When Jeongin saw Hyunjins' bright smile, he wanted to die in that instance. He felt his cheeks grow warmer so instead of saying anything, he nodded, seeing no harm in considering his visit a "date".
Hyunjins' smile grew wider and Jeongin felt like he was being blessed by an ethereal being.
"I'm so glad you agreed to this because if you didn't-" he paused, taking out several food items and a computer from his bag. "-all these snacks would have gone to waste."
