It was proven that I did have something to lose.

The next morning I woke up to Amber putting her hands on her hips and moving her elbows front and back as she screamed,
"BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEEP"
I giggled, stretching. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and looked around the room. I glanced at Chloe and waved her over.
"Lady Odette! Good morning, miss," she said as she walked over. She gave Amber a stern look and turned back to me. "You have approximately an hour to get ready this morning, just enough time for you to take a bath while Amber picks you a dress and Meghan chooses your makeup and hairstyle! Here, your vitamins!" She gave me a bottle, the bitter, exotic tasting cubes a different color than I remembered.
Suddenly, Helena popped in.
"Good morning, Lady Odette! I'm here to remind you that you have just under hour to get ready for this morning's breakfast, after which you will meet the prince." Just as soon as she came in, she left.
The thought of meeting the prince made my knees weak. As I was running my fingers through my hair, Amber rugged me into the closet and pushed me into a somewhat-tight white dress with flowers printed on it. It was beautiful, the flowers numerous on the bottom of my dress and bare at the top, in a type of gradient that only feminine eyes could pick up.
As soon as I was fitted, I was dunked into the bath while Amber took out a few of the stitches per my request. Meghan expertly dried and styled my hair in under thirty minutes, and after I finally got into my now perfect-fitting dress, she did my makeup.
Now, Meghan always did the same things while she did my makeup. It was nice, how she never put on too much. Mascara, concealer where I needed brightening, and a little translucent powder. She told me I didn't need blush, as my face already had a pretty natural flush.
My maids silently grinned at their masterpiece until Chloe suddenly clapped her hands twice with sudden desperation.
"A flower. She needs a flower in her hair. One that matches the ones in her dress."
We couldn't find one that matched, not in the little time that we had left. Suddenly, with a slight gasp, Meghan walked over to a small dresser that I hadn't noticed before. She opened a drawer that had an M on it and drew from the drawer a hair pin that was golden and had tiny burgundy flowers on it. It was beautiful, but I only got a slight glance before she tucked it into my hair.
Amber grinned and walked over to the dresser as well, pulling from her own a pair of golden earrings that hung to the same level as my jawline. She slid them into my ears so swiftly that I could barely notice which ear she was working on.
Chloe, as I hoped, joined in. She withdrew a golden ring in which she kissed and slid around my left pointer finger.
"From your maids, good luck, and with these charms we leave you in good faith that you may receive from this selection what you came for." Chloe said, closing her eyes and clasping Meghan and Amber's hands.
I left my room with tears in my eyes, not wanting to leave their presence. While on my way to breakfast, I twirled the ring on my finger, I checked the backs of the earrings, and I tucked the hair pin further in my hair. These three things, I vowed, would be my good luck charms.
I'm sure I'll need it.
