Hey guys! First off, I want to apologize for the very random publish times, I'm really only writing when I have the time.
With COVID-19 going around, I'd like to wish you and your families safety and health through the upcoming months.
Stay safe and wash your hands!
(With schools closing, I'm hoping that I will have more free time to upload!)
In the time between lunch and dinner, I remained in my room, pondering my date with the prince.
I knew he had good intentions, but his awkwardness in finding love was going to be difficult. He obviously was never in a relationship before, which I didn't expect.
Of course, like most of the Selected, I did have relationship experience.
Not that that mattered though. It didn't work out, and so what? It wasn't my fault that he chose himself over me, it wasn't my fault.
I wiped a tear forming at the side of my eye. Hugging a pillow and digging my face into it, I tried getting my mind off him.
"Lady Odette? Are you okay?" I looked up, Meghan was standing in my bathroom doorway, worry written on her face.
I laughed, looking back down at my pillow.
"Yes, Meghan, I'm fine." I tried changing the subject.
"Meghan, when Queen America was addressed by her maids, didn't she tell them to call them simply by her name, without the formal 'Lady' in front?"
Meghan nodded wearily, taking a step back.
"In that case I would like for you, Chloe, and Amber to do the same."
Meghan nodded again, then left the room to inform the others.
I sighed as she left, she obliviously left me alone to continue being upset.
I pushed myself off the bed and made my way to the vanity, where I rummaged in my luggage to find a notepad.
I scribbled down some simple requests, trying to make sure they weren't too long and demanding.
Not that they were demanding in the slightest, I only wanted to make sure they wouldn't be.
I asked the following things,
If my maids could choose themselves my room furniture
If someone could find Maddie and see how she's doing
And
If my maids could be notified for a meeting I'd like to have with them tonight or tomorrow, as soon as this finds it's way to each of them
I wanted my maids to pick out my furniture because I trusted their judgement over mine, I missed Maddie so much and wanted her to know I missed her, and I wanted to arrange a meeting with my maids for reasons I was excited to share with them.
As dinner approached, I left my room to go the library. There, I searched for a book that I could read during my stay here. I made sure to find one that was thin, because I wanted to read an entire book while I was here. Leaving the castle and only reading half of a book would suck, I would be waiting for a conclusion the rest of my life.
I plucked a slim one off the historical fiction shelf, reading the back cover. I smiled and sat down where I was and opened the cover. This was an abridged version of an old script that followed the American Revolution. I traced the old letters with my fingertips, inhaling softly the scent of it's old pages.
I read a little, not getting too far ahead before I was interrupted.
"Lady Odette?"
I looked up to see the prince, a book in his hands and round glasses on his face. I squeaked a little in surprise, I wasn't expecting him to be here!
He took his glasses off quickly, sliding them into a case tucked in his arm.
"Forgive me if I startled you, dear. I come to the library most afternoons, so if you're here to read we could be reading buddies! Although, why do you hold such a small book?"
I chuckled and thought something up quickly.
"I like starting small." I giggled, hugging it femininely.
"So do I." He winked, smiling, squatting down beside me. He was obviously talking about my height, I was just over five feet, a midget for my age.
Blushing, I stood up.
"Have you been on any other dates yet?" I asked, changing the subject.
"No, not yet." He smiled, and I knew he had someone on his mind.
"Who?!" I begged, shaking his arm. "You have to tell me! I won't let it spill, I promise!"
He pushed me off his arm.
"Lady Odette, stop pressing." He said, strangely stern.
I frowned, feeling hurt.
"I wasn't going to, but now that you treat me like that, I don't think I want to even speak to you right now." I walked off, completely forgetting why I was there.
He didn't follow me, and I wasn't expecting him to. I had been at the castle for less than a week, but it felt like months. I scoffed in thought and checked the time. Dinner was starting soon. I walked towards the Lady's room.
I sat by myself, planning to read my book.
I went to open it, but I couldn't find it. I looked around, then realized I had left it in the library. I sighed and stood up.
I walked over to Peyton, and sat down by her.
"Hey Peyton, where's Bernadette?" She shrugged, looking around with me.
"I don't know, but it's almost dinner time. I'm starving!" Agreeing with her, we dropped the subject and waited for dinner.
