Playlist Explanation
• Dreamboy by Waterparks- This song is what inspired me to create Addiction. Jimin, a social media influencer, is the dreamboy living in the subconscious of his many followers.
• Save Me by BTS- The warning at the beginning indicated this short story would involve a stalker, thus, a character would need to be saved. It foreshadows that the person who loved Jimin would need to save him before he potentially dies ("I need your love before I fall.")
• Adam and Eve But My Name is Mike by Bleu Levees- Jimin and Jungkook meet three of Jimin's followers on a random store run. Unbeknownst to them, one is Jimin's stalker. The fans gush over how perfect Jimin is. One even recommends for Jimin to try sparkling water (which is an acquired taste because people either love it or say it tastes like poison). The artist of the song, Bleu Levees, does his own interpretation of the biblical figures by offering Eve poison. Mark (the snake) , recommending the sparkling water is his way of saying "drink my poison baby." And Jungkook (Adam) tries to convince Jimin (Eve) not to do it.
• I Love You 3000 II by 88 Rising, Stephanie Poetri, & Jackson Wang- Soft melody to show the hidden feelings between Jimin and Jungkook. Jungkook's favorite character is Iron Man and he has feelings for Jimin. Jimin has secret feelings for Jungkook as well. However, their relationship begins as best friends. "Baby take my hand. I just wanna be your best friend."
• Easier (Live From the Vault) by 5SOS- Jimin, being an influencer, has a love/hate relationship with social media. It can be extremely toxic. He's not sure whether to quit to avoid the toxicity or to stay and attempt to be apart of the change he wants to see (also symbolizes the author's relationship with Wattpad). Is it easier to stay? Is it easier to go?
• Obsession by EXO- Good versus evil. The obsessed evil is trying to take over. In this case, Mark (the stalker) is obsessed with Jimin and is "taking over" by holding him hostage. Jimin even tells him "shut up and go away" which is a line from the song.
• Kill This Love by BLACKPINK- Jimin, being addicted to social media, was loved by his followers. Mark's obsession symbolizes that sometimes love can hurt. He would need to be defeated for Jimin and Jungkook to escape. They needed to "kill this love."
• my strange addiction by Billie Eilish- The song has a line that goes: "should've taken a break, not an Oxford comma." Jimin, who previously overshared on social, was kidnapped. Instead of taking time away from social media to recover, he immediately thought to share a post so his fans wouldn't be "disappointed" during his break. He's addicted to social media.
Story Explanation:
Jimin was addicted to social media to the point that he wasn't paying attention to reality. He was on vacation with close friends but couldn't stop posting online. He was being stalked but disregarded it as some internet prank.
Mark was addicted to wanting to be social media famous to the point that he became an obsessed stalker and kidnapper. He was so obsessed with social media that he didn't initially realize Jungkook when he came to save Jimin.
This story is an exaggeration of how people sometimes become addicted to social media. Social media isn't a terrible thing but don't become addicted to where you miss out on life happening around you.
