Beam woke up to raised voices the next day and immediately knew it was coming from Forth's apartment. His building was like a ghost building, with the residents eerily quiet all the time. But lately, he really felt like he was living among people, all because of a single man. He stumbled messily to the door and peeked curiously outside at his noisy neighbor's. His eyes widened when he saw the cause of the raised voices. Mr Code Kongthanin was standing rigidly blocking at the entrance of the apartment and was engaged in a heated conversation with his son. Beam gulped at the sight of the two imposing men. He closed his door as quietly as possible and snuck back inside. There was no way in hell he was getting between the two of them, he personally knew how strict and hard Mr Kongthanin can be and judging from his stance, he came prepared to win whatever battle he had going on. Glancing around helplessly, he decided to get ready for the day.
After taking a bath and brushing his teeth, he could no longer curb his curiosity at the sudden quietness and peeked outside again. His eyes widened as Mr Kongthanin gaze fell on him, he was about to close the door hastily when a deep voice stopped him, "Beam?"
He swallowed painfully and opened his door fully. He smiled stiffly and croaked out, "Hi Mr Kongthanin...."
Code stepped out to the corridor and looked at him in surprise, "what are you doing here?"
Beam scratched his head sheepishly, "I...hummm....I live here!"
Code appeared even more surprised and glanced around, "good choice. You live here because it's close to the hospital right?"
The young man nodded and stood awkwardly.
"So do you know that my son came to live here too?"
"I know......"
Code scrutinised him with his sharp eyes and was about to say something when Forth interrupted him, "what are you doing outside? Come inside. And Beam you also, breakfast is ready."
Beam wanted to refuse but wouldn't dare under the sharp gaze of Mr Kongthanin. He nodded mutely and followed along to not make him even more suspicious.
They sat down awkwardly round the small table and Beam got busy serving them from the takeaway boxes.
"Your brother came by?" The big man asked his son. They looked like they were crowding each other, which was indeed the case since they were both very imposing and full of themselves.
Forth nodded, "he passed by around dawn and hurried back to work. He usually comes to visit in the morning and leave us breakfast."
"Us?"
Beam hurriedly stepped in, "yes, I got a little sick so Phana brings me my meals along with For...P'Forth."
Code looked at him closely, "you do appear thinner, eat well and take care of yourself son. Don't be so hard on yourself."
"A little?? You nearly worked yourself to death Beam!
Such a big man but he doesn't listen. He likes to overwork and his body failed him. He fell unconscious at the hospital and was given a few days to recuperate." Forth chimed in. Beam narrowed his eyes at him but it was late, he now has to undergo a severe talk down from daddy Kongthanin.
"You fell sick from overwork? That's not good son, you're so young. You have to take care of yourself. You live so far away from your family, make sure not to make them worry about you. Don't punish your young body unnecessarily. I know work is very important but sometime you got to step back, even if by force, to take a break."
" Said from the man who never took a break in his life." Forth retorted dryly.
Code turned his penetrating gaze on him, "I took enough breaks to produce you three and grow you up, don't you think?!"
