Benjamin's POV
July 18, 2019
Benjamin pulled into Tyler's driveway and jogged to the door, looking forward to seeing his handsome fiance. Benjamin loved that word fiance and he fit it into nearly every conversation. He even managed to slip it into chit chat at the supermarket with the teller. "My fiance". He loved it!
Tyler greeted him at the door even before he rang the doorbell and quickly wrapped his arms around him.
"Goodmorning Benji" he said kissing him quickly.
"Goodmorning baby". He squeezed him before walking into the house. "I have great news. I'm so excited to tell you all about it. It will have to wait until we are alone" he said winking at him. "Are you almost ready?"
"Yeah, I just need my backpack. Mom is in the kitchen."
Benjamin walked into the kitchen and found Debbie and Simon at the table. "Where's the boys?" He asked.
"Peter took them to Stanley Park for a walk".
Debbie smiled and poured him a cup of coffee."Thanks Debbie" Benjamin grabbed his cup of coffee. "Hey Simon. Doris said she had a fun week with you. Thanks for helping with her."
"No problem Benjamin. She's really nice and I had a good time. I became quite good at crib" he said laughing.
"I bet you did!" Benjamin agreed. "Let me finish my coffee then we can go" he said to Tyler as he came into the room.
"Sure" he said and poured himself some coffee in his travel mug. "We will be home tomorrow night, probably about 7 or 8." He told Debbie.
"Such a small world, meeting the fire chief that saved you, after all of these years. And he was Mike's dad." She said shaking her head in amazement.
"It really is something pretty awesome". Tyler nodded enthusiastically. "They were so nice to me. I never forgot that" he said smiling and leaned into Debbie's hug as she wrapped her arms around him.
"I'm glad you get to see them again. You two will have a great trip. We will see you tomorrow. Oh, Benjamin, I talked to your mom last night and she's going to come over for supper Wednesday night and we will start making plans for the wedding" she said excitedly.
"Yeah she told me she talked to you. How about 5? 6? What time is good for you?" Benjamin asked taking his last sip of coffee and setting his mug in the dishwasher.
"Whatever is easier for you. We will be home". She shrugged.
Benjamin laughed. "Ok. 5:30 then".
"Perfect". She gave him a thumbs up.
"See you two tomorrow. Say hi to Peter and the boys" Benjamin said grabbing Tyler's backpack and waved goodbye.
Benjamin could not wipe the smile off of his face. Tyler turned to him after fastening his seatbelt. "Ok. Spill it" Tyler laughed.
"I can't believe it. You have to agree, of course, but of course you will. Well I hope you do." Benjamin was excited and started stammering.
"Start at the beginning Benji" Tyler said calmly.
"Ok" he exhaled. "So I went to Mom's for dinner last night. Took Doris with me. They say hi by the way".
"Focus Benji" Tyler prompted him.
"Right. Sorry. So we were talking about the wedding, and your schooling and house hunting and mom said that she was moving. I was dumbfounded.
To be honest I was upset. That house has been in the family for over 50 years and just to casually say that, well I couldn't believe it. So mom was going on and on about living in an apartment and she had been looking for the past month and when I heard that, well I was really hurt. So she just looks at me and asks why I'm upset.
I told her that I was surprised she would sell it without talking about it first and how casual she was taking it. Her parents moved into the house when they got married and she grew up there and I grew up there and it never occurred to me that this would happen. Then she started laughing and pulled out a piece of paper. It's the deed to the house. She signed it over to us!"
"No. That's too much!!". Tyler exclaimed in complete shock.
"That's what I said too and she just smiled and said that her parents bought the home, and when she got pregnant with me they signed it over to her so that we would always have a home. She wants the same for us. She wants us to raise our family there" Benjamin said happily.
"So babe, we have a home". Benjamin looked over at Tylers unreadable expression. Within a moment his smile was as bright as the sun.
"A home to raise our family" he chocked out, tears rolling down his face. "This is a dream come true. I am getting married to my best friend, the love of my life, we will have a home. A family. This is more than I ever expected in my life". He said wiping away the tears.
Benjamin was trying not to cry but was glad that he had pulled into a parking lot minutes before. He reached for Tyler and they held each other for the longest time.
"I never thought I would find someone. I thought love was for everyone else but me. Never did I think I would be loved by someone as wonderful as you. I didn't think I would have a family, children to love and watch grow up. I loved my home growing up and to share that home with you and grow old with you is more than I dreamed possible. I love you so much". Benjamin said wiping his tears on Tyler's shoulders.
They looked at each other, their smiles so bright, so much love in their eyes for each other and felt a wave of complete joy wash over them.
After a few minutes of teary hugging they composed themselves and were back on the road.
Benjamin kept his happy thoughts to himself. He couldn't wait to see Bob and Sheila, he thought of them as second parents and a connection to Mike. He was excited to introduce Tyler as his fiance and especially to tell them how special the connection between all of them is.
For him it was a miracle, how the forces worked pulling them together. For Tyler and Benjamin it was beyond love, it was date. It was destined.
