~Imani's POV~:
After lunch, Reese dropped me off at my house. Damiun's car wasn't in the driveway; a clear sign he wasn't home.
I changed into a comfy pair of jogger sweats, a t-shirt beneath my gold, Childhood Cancer Awareness hoodie and fuzzy, warm socks. I threw my braids into a high ponytail and blasted Nicki Minaj through our surround sound system. I sang along softly as I put in a load of dirty laundry in the washer machine.
Do you ever think of me when you lie; lie down in your bed, your bed of lies
And I knew better than to look in your eyes
They only pretend, that you would be mine
And oh how you made me believe
You had me caught in every web that you weaved
But do you ever think of me when you lie; lie down in your bed, your bed of lies
When I finally set the washer to wash, I walked to the kitchen. I washed an orange and put it on a plate along with a knife. I sat down at the island with my phone and a bottle of water nearby. As I peeled and sliced the orange, I let the lyrics of Bed of Lies sink in. It reminded me an awful lot of Damiun and I. Our old relationship to be exact.
Just as Guts Over Fear started playing, my phone rang. I checked the caller I.D. and it was my best friend Jerome.
"Hey Romie! How the hell are you?!"
"Immy, I'm great! We need to catch up, girl. You free?" I glanced up at the clock on the microwave.
"Well, I'm doing laundry and I have a shit load of studying to catch up on so how about tomorrow after my appointment?" Rome clicked his tongue.
"Ooh, girl. You know you aint gonna study shit tonight. You just tryna give Dee some ass but what kinda doctor you going to?" I blushed at his words and bit into one of the orange slices.
"An obstetrician."
"A who-da whadda?" I laughed at how clueless he was.
"It's a baby doctor." Jerome gasped loudly.
"What in the blue hell are you going to a baby doctor for?" A burst of happiness shot through me as I heard the front door open and slam shut.
"Let's go shopping tomorrow, okay? I'll tell you all about it. Love you, give Marcus some kisses for me!" I hung up before he had the chance to say anything back because damn can that boy talk.
I popped another orange into my mouth just as Damiun came waltzing into the kitchen. Guilt and regret was written all over his face. Not only was his face an open book but his entire appearance gave away alot. He looked dishevelled and that was enough to make my happiness fly out through the door he entered.
"Hey, Dee," I started dryly, "you okay?" As he leaned in to kiss me, I inhaled. He reeked of a disgusting mixture of sex, drugs, perfume and cologne.
"I'm fine, why?" I felt my eyes sting but plastered a smile on my face nonetheless.
"It's nothing. I'm gonna go study." I slipped my phone in my pocket as I stood up and just as I was going to grab the plate and water, Damiun stopped me. He pulled me into bone-crushing hug. I couldn't bear the scent on him so I dug my nails into his sides to get him off of me.
"Ow, what the fuck, Imani?" I reached for my snack again and gave him a hard stare.
"Take a fucking shower before you touch me again." His face melted into a look of sadness but I didn't give a shit. If you're going to cheat, do it right.
~
I opened my big ass book on nursing diagnosis and tried to ignore the feelings that were overwhelming me. Did he seriously cheat on me again?
He must've taken my advice because the shower upstairs turned on. I sighed and grabbed a highlighter and started memorizing shit.
It wasn't long before he came into the loft where I was sitting on a couch-bed. As he sat beside me, I fought to keep my facial expression neutral. "What are you studying?"
"Diagnosis."
"Oh." It fell silent as I continued to highlight and ignore his presence. That didn't work out too well.
"So where are the groceries?" He put his hand on my thigh and I almost slapped his hand away. Almost.
"Darnell called me and asked me to come over. I didn't want you to be here by yourself too long so I decided we could just go together later." I nodded and took note of his lie. He's a smooth ass liar.. but I'm smarter than that.
"Okay. I'm doing laundry so it won't be for awhile." He shrugged.
"That's cool. I guess I'll go start dinner or something." Dee got up and left.
I rolled my eyes as I continued to study.
xx.
