~Imani's POV~:

Who has this person become?

I helplessly stood there and prayed for a miracle. Just then, the front door slammed.

"Imani! I have takeout. Maybe we could chill?"

"Jay! Help me-," Damiun slapped me in the face before I could finish my plea. I was seeing Dee in a new light. How could he do this to me?

"My god, get the fuck off of her!" As soon as Jay ripped Dee off of me, Jay was drawing his arm back to punch him. The sickening sound of bone cracking made me cringe. I slid down the cabinets onto the floor and wrapped my arms around myself.

My world was spinning out of control.

"Imani? Look at me. He's gone, okay, he won't be bothering you again baby girl. I got you, it's okay."

I wrapped my arms around Jay and clutched him for dear life. I was crying uncontrollably. "Jay, I-I,"

His arms wrapped around me in a strong embrace. "Shh, don't say anything. That fucker won't hurt you again. I won't let him."

I was shaking my head. "This baby is his. He's not going to give up so easily, Jay."

"I don't care, Imani. I'm not going to let anything happen to you or your baby. I'm going to call Jerome, okay? I don't want you to be alone."

I looked up at him and wiped my face. "Where are you going? You just said you're going to protect me."

He kissed my cheeks and forehead. "I'm going to run to my house to pack a bag. I'm not leaving you foreal."

He placed a soft kiss on my lips and attempted to stand up but I held onto him. "Hm, wait, can I stay with you?"

"You have this big ass house and you wanna stay in my baby ass apartment?" He had a look of amusement on his face.

I felt my eyes watering up again. "I don't wanna be here Jay.."

"Okay, baby girl. Let's go upstairs and pack your bag."

The drive to Jay's house was rather short. Maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Jaerre lived in a large apartment complex with a nice community pool. He lived all the way at the back of the complex.

He pulled up to his building and quickly got out of the car. A smile cracked my face as he opened my door for me. Very gentlemanly. He also grabbed my bag for me and the food he had brought to my house.

I followed him up two flights of stairs; he lived on the third floor. He fumbled with the keys to the door a little but when he opened the door, I was amazed.

"Jay, this place is nice." He smiled at me.

"You think so?"

"Yeah."

A Kendrick Lamar song was humming lowly in the background.

For a guy who lived alone, Jay's apartment was decorated nicely.

"You wanna come to my room?"

"Sure."

~Chinese food and a long conversation later~

"Wow, Jay, you're really the coolest person ever."

He was smirking at me. "Am I?"

"Yeah. You're very different, you know?"
