Smoke and Fire

Chapter Eight

"Merry Christmas." John smiled as Dinah began to wake up the next morning.

"Merry Christmas." The brunette mumbles just as Jayden releases an excited squeal through the monitor.

John laughed and leaned in to kiss her. "Our son is calling us."

Groaning, Dinah slowly sits up. "No."

"Come on." John said, sitting up and getting out of bed.

Pouting slightly, Dinah gets out of bed. "He's your son when he gets up this early."

John laughed. "Come on, it's Christmas."

"Why can't it be Christmas later? I'm tired." Dinah grumbles as she follows him toward the nursery.

"Get some coffee. You can sleep later." John said.

Sighing, the brunette makes her way toward the kitchen while John gets Jayden. She could hear Jayden squeal with excitement when he saw his father.

A small smile appears on her lips as she makes her coffee.

John joined Dinah in the kitchen not too long after, having changed Jayden.

"Mama!" Jayden squeals excitedly.

"Hey, baby." Dinah said.

The two year old instantly reaches for her.

Dinah took Jayden from John. "Are you ready to see what Santa brought you?"

Jayden smiled and nodded.

"Let mama get her coffee and then we'll open some presents." The brunette tells her son.

Jayden nodded.

Dinah passes Jayden back to John so she can finish making her coffee.

"Would you like some juice?" John asked his son.

Nodding his head, Jayden lays his head on John's shoulder.

John moved to make Jayden's juice.

It wasn't long before they were sitting with Jayden as he excitedly opened his presents.

Dinah sipped her coffee.

"Mama!" Jayden squeals, holding up a toy car.

Dinah smiled. "I see it buddy."

The little boy seemed so excited about the car.

John smiled at his son.

Shifting, Dinah leans against John as Jayden continues opening presents.

John kissed the side of her head.

Pulling his arm tighter around her, Dinah smiles softly.

"Jayden, why don't you get your present for mommy." John suggested once Jayden had finished opening all his presents.

Dinah shifts slightly and looks up at John before taking the present Jayden brings her.

John lifted Jayden onto his lap.

"What's this?" Dinah asks, looking at John before looking at the present.

"Open it." John said.

Slowly, Dinah begins to unwrap the gift.

John smiled.

A small smile grows on Dinah's lips.

"I knew you'd love it." John said.

"It's so beautiful." Dinah whispers, pulling the silver necklace free. Her eyes locked on the Canary symbol hanging off it.

"I had it specially made." John said. "Let me put it on you."
