Chapter 15 - Part 1:

The last remnants of her recent dream were chased away by the realisation that she's awake again. With a mental sigh Rebecca allowed her brain to focus and cautiously opened one eye. There was no bright sunlight peering inside the room, but a dark overcast shadow. She pulled the sheet down from up over her head.

With no alarm or any other devices to warn her of the time and wake her up, Rebecca assumed it was still early in the morning.

Creeping out of bed, she shuffled around the room, grabbing her backpack and filling it with everything necessary.

Her movements didn't interfere with Beth in any way. Due to her being ill, she probably needed as much rest as she could get, safely meaning, she was deep asleep.

Rebecca pinned herself onto the wall and quietly in the structures doorway.

Once she made it out in the hallway, she looked over the railing and down to the ground. Her blue eyes scanned the ground area. 'Clear', she thought.

Adjusting the straps on her backpack, she went outside and around to Cookie who was biting at the rope around his neck. Rick had given Rebecca a lecture about Cookie, apparently he wasn't allowed to sleep inside during the night and he had to be on a leash ( or in this case, a rope ) at all times.

Cookies eyes lit up when he spotted Rebecca. His attention fully focused on her and her actions. From Rebecca's view she could see her puppy's tail wagging side to side in joy after her appearance.

She knelt on one knee and tucked her hands under the rope around his neck, undoing the knot.

"Come on, boy." She whispered, pulling him into her arms once he was free. His little head rose up and he swiped his dripping wet tongue across her cheek. Rebecca took that action as a thank you, and laughed it off quietly.

With Cookie in her arms and her backpack hanging from her shoulders, Rebecca was ready. The only thing blocking her way was whoever decided to take this mornings shift as guard.

Yes, there were two possible ways to escape through to the perimeter of the Museum by the front or back, but Rebecca could only leave through the back in order to swim through the lake and out the other side. With Cookie it was a hard task and quite unsafe, so she had to decide and go along with the front entrance.

Thankfully Rebecca didn't come unprepared. She was expecting someone to be out front, it was no surprise. She only begged her idea would turn out perfectly and work in her favour.

A man she had never been formally introduced to before was leaning against the gate, a rifle in his hold and his eyes trained on the ground as he was distracted by his thoughts. He looked harmless, and quite frankly, he didn't seem like the type of guy who would give Rebecca a hard time. Covering the top half of his head was a navy blue knitted beanie and his black beard covering the rest of his face like a scarf.

Before Rebecca came into his eye range she slid off her backpack and placed it on the ground along with Cookie. "Stay." She ordered her puppy with a serious look.

Taking in a huge breath, Rebecca sidestepped into the unfamiliar guys eye range. His eyes were still on the ground and he kept moving foot to foot.

Rebecca approached him, a small smile on her face. The mans head shot up and on reflex, his arms pulled the gun up and aimed at Rebecca.

It was expected. Rebecca hadn't exactly warned him she was coming. Her hands flew up in front of her in a surrendering action.
