Faking it

"You totally like Gina!" Nini exclaimed to her best friend, Ricky. "No...yeah." "But she doesn't even notice you?" "She does...not." Nini laughed. 

"Do you wanna know why she doesn't pay attention to you?" "Just tell me." He said. "It's because you've never had a girlfriend, no one wants to take a chance with you!" Nini said while taking a bite out of her strawberry. 

"If you get a girlfriend, break up with her, every girl will be after you." She continued. "Okay but where will I find a girlfriend then?" Nini laughed. "I happen to know a special gal who wants to make her ex jealous." Ricky looked at her as if asking 'who?'. "Me, you want Gina too notice you and I want Ej back." She said.

"But I don't like you like that.." He said. "I don't have feelings for you either but we both want something similar so we just gotta 'date' for awhile, break up then boom." She put air quotes around date. 

"Wouldn't it be weird?" "Just don't act awkward.." He nodded. She then gasped. "Look there's Ej, stand up and kiss me!" His eyes widen. "What?" He said. "Stand up and kiss me!" She pulled him up by the arm. 

Then when he leaned in she said, "Never mind he just left." She pushed him back into his seat.

"Okay, so we need a believable story so people think were really together." Nini said, putting her books into her locker. "Why not a story of two lovers who were forbidden to ever see each other but-" "I said believable, not Romeo and Juliet!" "Sorry I just had English and Ms Al would not stop talking about Shakespeare." He said. 

"Why not just two best friends who ended up falling in love?" Ricky laughed. "That's so cliche-" Nini glared at him so he shut up. 

"Hey guys, I heard something about you two being a thing?" Red popped up with Ashlyn. "Yep, we got together awhile ago." Ricky said.

"Aw that's so cute, two best friends who ended up becoming more than that!" Ashlyn said and Nini grinned at Ricky. "We gotta get to class guys." They waved goodbye to the new couple.

"Guess who's idea were going with!" Nini said and laughed. "Whatever." He said, "Hold my hand while you walk me to class." He took her hand and Nini felt a shock and warmness filled her body.

"You okay Nini?" He asked. "Uh Y-yeah, I'm fine."

"Ej's face was so red when he saw you hold my books for me, I thought he was gonna explode!" Nini said laughing. Her and Ricky were currently having a 'date' at a local coffee shop near the school. "And when Gina saw it too, she must have been thinking, 'what a gentleman he is'." They both laugh. 

"Wait- where did they even go?" Ricky said, looking around. "I guess they must have left, I didn't even notice.." Nini said still smiling though. 

"I guess same time tomorrow?" He said and Nini nodded.

She then noticed how his eyes sparkled and how soft his smile was. It felt like the whole room got brighter and she felt the warmness her body once had when he held her hand. 

He called her name but all she heard was birds chirping and singing. "Nini, Nini, Nini!" She woke up from her trance. "Are you sure your okay, you keep dazing out and daydreaming, are thinking about me?" Nini choked on her muffin. "Jeez I was joking." He laughed. "Y-yep, I know." She faked a laugh. 

"Okay when do we kiss?" He asked. Nini's eyes widen. "What?" She said shocked.

"I said when do we break up?" "Oh, right uh maybe in a week, we can just say that we mainly acted like friends and not a couple I guess?" He nodded.

"Well I gotta go, I love you!" Nini looked at him. "What?" she said. He laughed, "I said I gotta go, bye, are you sure your not sick or anything?" He touched her forehead and she felt like she was gonna burst into fireworks. 

"You know what, I do feel a little sick, I'm gonna go home and rest awhile!" She said nervously laughing and she bolted out of the coffee shop.

It's been a week and Nini was laying down on her bed and she was thinking about why she had been acting so weird around Ricky. Every time he touched her hand or hugged her she felt butterflies. 

She was always thinking about him all the time and even if he said 'hello' her mind would make her think he said something to do with being in a relationship.

She then gasped. "I'm in love with Ricky."

Nini entered the coffee shop and searched to see if Ricky was there. She spotted him sitting down on a stool by the counter. "Hey Ricky!" Nini said. 

He turned around and smiled. "Oh hey Nini, what's up?" He asked. "I actually wanted to tell you somethin-" "You ready to go, oh hey Nini." Nini turned around and saw Gina. "Oh right, I told Gina about us breaking up and now were going to watch a movie, you were right." He whispered to her. "Congrats." "Yeah, I'm sure Ej will come around." He said. "Let's hope so." She faked a smile.

"Well let's go." He said to Gina and they were gonna leave until. "Oh right, what were you gonna say?" He asked. "It doesn't really matter, go have fun." He smiled and her and left. 

"Great." Nini whispered to herself and frowned.
