POV: Dan

I folded my hands on the window sill, resting my chin on my tangled fingers. I watched the subjects of my father's kingdom scurry about, walking from place to place; shops, dwellings, ponds, even. I had noticed a boy running in and out of the forrest nearby, day after day. I always laughed as I watched him leap into the little peasant's village, trying not to be noticed. I had always wondered what he did in that forrest.

But today something different caught my eye; a peasant, plowing dirt in his employer's land. His face and clothes were very dirty. Honestly, he looked like he hadn't bathed in months. He was constantly wiping beads of sweat from his forehead, for the sun was burning down on his midnight black hair.

There was this feeling I had about him; I did not know what it was; but I supposed it was some kind of immature and shallow crush that would go away within minutes.

It didn't matter what it was I was feeling; I was feeling it, and whatever it was, it made me unable to channel my attention to anything but his green/blue eyes.

Time Skip Of MAGIC ~('-'~) (~'-')~

"Father, can we hire that peasant?" I asked, pointing to the boy outside the window. "He looks very hard-working."

My father sighed and followed my gaze. "You could very easily hire a more... presentable peasant," He said, scanning his eyes across the village. "Like that one," He said, pointing to a young lady in a peasant's dress. She was much more presentable, but I didn't care. I didn't see her in the same way I saw that boy.

"I only want that one, father," I told him. "He seems very, very hard-working. We could hire him to do the household chores."

"Ay, son, but we already have so many maids," He said, channeling his attention to the boy. "We do not need any more."

"Please, father," I pleaded.

"You are the crown prince, son. One day you will have a kingdom of your own, and when you do, you may hire any peasant you like."

"I do not want any peasant, father, I want that one," I complained.

He sighed. "If your mother approves, we will summon him in the morning," He declared.

I thanked him and he left to ask my mother her opinion.

I knew she would say yes; my mother had a soft heart for all people, especially the poor. She would offer him easier work and more pay, as she did with all peasants I requested. She loved all people, and that is what my father loved about her.
