"Natalia, why are you wearing boots?"

I looked over to Lily who had her nose scrunched at the sight of my chosen footwear.
Peering, my gaze drifted towards the floor where I studied the Doc Martins that covered my feet, "well for starters, it's a great place to hide a knife and secondly, it's impossible to walk in heels."

We were in the car on the way to the dreaded masquerade ball, which of course we had to dress up and look the part for, so I had settled on a deep blue gown which got increasingly lighter at the bottom. It came all the way towards the ground so my shoes hid perfectly underneath it. That was until, in the car on the way there I decided to cross my legs exposing the shoes.

Lily cocked her head in concern, "yes but every other lady there will be wearing heels!"

"You can't see them!" I protested.

She just shook her head in disbelief.
We were interrupted by Evan, "here I have 4 ear pieces, one for each of you and Jonathon. That's how we can communicate, I'm staying in the car so I can scan the buildings blue prints for hidden rooms as well as checking surveillance cameras. You should all have your guns and badges in your handbags, Jonathon's are on his belt. You know what you have to do, try and find one of those three business men and try and find the auction, as soon as you do, I will call for backup. At any point the situation gets dangerous, the code name 'home' will let me know that the mission needs to be aborted. Understood?"

We all nodded in unison.

Jonathon pulled up the car near an alley way in the shadows of the night. To make it less obvious of our role here. The four of us stepped out, a breeze flew up my dress sending shivers down my spine. I placed my ear piece inside my ear, hiding it under my curled hair. I slipped my purse over my shoulder and followed the others towards the building. On the outside, the building was majestic with large steps leading up to it. Multiple cars, many too expensive for people like us to afford, pulled up out the front, I watched as person upon person stepped out whilst wearing their masks over their face. It reminded me to place mine on. I followed behind several of them in hope of blending in well with their elegant manors.

Once inside, the main ballroom was lit up with a couple chandeliers, the ceiling was decorated to perfection and the sound of a classical cacophony of string instruments filled my ears.
If I didn't know any better, I'd say this was designed for royalty which clearly, I was not. Now thinking of it, how did we even manage to get in here but that didn't matter since from the corner of my eye I spotted the bar.

I wandered through a crowd of people and found myself leaning upon the bar watching the rest of the hall fill up.
I heard a buzz in my ear.

'No drinking Natalia."

"What, how can you see me?" I hissed under my breath.

'Looking through security cameras,' I heard a laugh from the other end, 'can't have you getting drunk.'

I rolled my eyes.

I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned around to see a bar man, "what can I get you to drink miss?"

I sighed, "just a water, please."
The bar man nodded, and walked away.

"Happy?"

'Very.'

"Where are the rest of you?" I whispered.
I scanned over the room in attempt to find the rest of my little posse, however much to my dismay, I couldn't see any of them.

'Nat, I'm by the stairs.' Nora responded.

'By the front door." This time it was Jonathon.
