CHAPTER EIGHTEEN,
we can do this!
The group continued to make their way to the armory. Aiden wondered if any of the others were still alive.
Rosita, Tara, Eugene, Maggie, Carol, Xavier, Aaron, Eric, Nathaniel, Morgan.
She whispered their names over and over in her head.
"Alright, new plan." Rick said when they all stopped. "Flares from a few guns aren't enough. Too many walkers, too spread out. We're not going to the armory. We need our vehicles back at the quarry. All of us drive. We'll need to round 'em up. We leave, we come back."
"Okay." Jessie agreed. "But Judith, to the quarry and back, I..."
"I'll take her. Keep her safe in my church until you all lead the walkers away." Gabriel said to Rick.
"Can you do this?" Aiden asked him.
"I'm supposed to. I have to. I will." Gabriel said.
"Alright." Rick said. Carl and Gabriel made the switch and Judy was under Gabriel's sheet now.
"Take Sam, too." Jessie said.
"No." Sam said immediately.
"Yes, Sam, it'll be safer." Jessie tried to coax her youngest son.
"I'm not leaving you." Sam said sternly.
"Sam-"
"Mom, I'm not. I can keep going."
"Sam-"
"I can keep going. Please." The young boy begged, "please. Let's just go."
"Okay."
"I'm going to keep her safe." Gabriel vowed to Rick.
"Thank you." The man replied.
"You should go with him." Payton said to Aiden.
"No. I can't be inside while all of you are out here. I just can't." Aiden replied. Payton nodded. He wasn't going to argue with her.
And the group was off once again. Aiden gripped Payton and Michonne's hands.
Night fell quickly.
Aiden's heart was pounding in her chest. She tightened her grip on Payton's hand and he tightened his in return.
Sam stopped.
"Sam?" Jessie asked her son. She and Rick started to encourage the younger boy that he could do it, that he had to be brave.
"Hey, you can do this. Just look at mom." Ron whispered to him.
"Honey, you can do it." Jessie encouraged. "Sam, you're gonna get- Sam, honey, I need you to come with me." Jessie said.
That's when he started to whimper.
